My ‘73 4001 had the older lower wind pickups. The neck was a toaster and the bridge went through the strangle capacitor which removed all the low end. That pickup was useless on its own. So yeah, you didn’t want to switch to that by chance.

I knew nothing about the cap, but thanks for confirming that the bridge pickup was useless on it's own. I never had the means to run that "Rick-O-Sound" (stereo setup), so the four knobs always seemed kind of silly.

Btw, I found that 4001 wiring diagram over at TalkBass. It definitely is a bit unusual.
