Do I want a Pearly Gates or '59 Bridge PU in my Les Paul?

Re: Do I want a Pearly Gates or '59 Bridge PU in my Les Paul?

hmmm i gave the PG-b another shot and actually it worked out quite nicely I made some changes to my Les Paul and amp and the pickup is Rocking quite nicely with my Tonebone Classic pedal!

What I like about the PG-b is the clarity for chord work it was very nice and the leads still sounded thicker than I remember so If i were to change my answer from my previous post I would definitely take the PG over the 59!

Theodie - +1 on the CC does crunch, I don't see that a lot. And the crunch with the fat highs is awesome. But did YOU read what he wants? Do you really think the A2P will be better than a pearly? Is that maple cap / ebony thing scaring you away from the brighter pups? I agree those custom suggestions are from a bunch of selfish panic at the disco types....but A2P for ACDC/Aerosmith. Pearly will be way more in that range. MAybe a Pearly bridge A2P neck...kinda extreme but maybe cool...

Check post #6.

He says he wants Warm Crunch,

An APH like pickup with more output,

A great match for the APH.

Those are not a PG at all!!!!!!! Those describe a CC to me. Maybe the PG will match the APH but, the CC/APH is a proven combo that goes together VERY well. The other 2 surely are not the PG.

Has anyone in this thread actually read what author says he is looking for or, like usual, are you guys just throwing out what you think sounds good in your guitar and havent taken in consideration what the author's guitar, rig, and ears are calling for????

Have you?! :laugh2: He's not interested in higher output buckers. I don't blame him. The Zentera is plenty man enough to gain up any vintage wound bucker. So it seems to me that he's between the 59 and PG not only because of their output individually, but how they'll balance with the neck pickup. I love the Custom series, but sometimes a guitar needs a 42AWG Vintage bucker, man! Sometimes I don't want the bridge pickup to constipate the amps front end. Maybe the elephant in the middle of the room is the Brobucker, but not everyone can pony up for one, and you have to choose from the Duncan production.

If you read what I wrote I also said a APH bridge or the CC. IMO, the CC is the only standard production pickup that has more output than the APH that delivers warm crunch (both of which he said he wanted). The PG does not do anything he mentioned he wanted it to do. I agree, the Brobucker would be ideal but, that is putting up some cheese for it. Actually, it is in the same price range as the Bro bucker but, the EVH might be a wise choice also.

Re: Do I want a Pearly Gates or '59 Bridge PU in my Les Paul?

I'm watching this thread very carefully, because I'm close to pulling the custom from my Les Paul...I don't like the way it pairs with the PGn...The PGn has a very 3d, air quality to it...and when switching to the slightly compressed custom, the switch is uncomfortable...

I'm strongly considering a PGb to replace the custom...
