Do they make an amp like this?

Re: Do they make an amp like this?

Gearjonser is right as well, but you can also pick up a used Budda SD30 or 80 for around a grand usually and they nail the voxish/plexi tones really well IMO.

Spend the money and get a Bogner Shiva combo or head/cab. At least you'll be done searching.

The Shiva is an awesome amp, but I'm not sure it will give him everything he wants. If he wants a blackface Fender and a hot rodded Marshall, the Shiva will fit him like a glove, but I'm not sure that's what he wants (not really made for that jangly Vox Beatles tone at all - doesn't really have that mid and upper frequency push and emphasis).

Line 6 does have solid representations of amps and if you want a cheap alternative to getting similar tones, that's probably the best way to go.

I agree with the earlier post about EL-84s. They are the only power tubes I know of that can get that chimey, mid oriented clean tone and still do straight up rock and roll right. That's what my Fargen has (as do many other amps like Vox). They just might be my favorite kind of tube.

Re: Do they make an amp like this?

the reason i slam the lone star is not that its a total flop. its just that it claims to be something its not. it doesnt sound anything like smokey texas blues and it claims the reverb is stellar which is not. the thing i look for in an amp is an organic tone. imho nothing is better than a nice tele neck pickup paired with a thick, organic but articulate clean tone with a tiny bit of reverb. i found that the lone star is articulate but it lacks the organic quality on any setting and the reverb is harsh and even with the warm switch on it doesnt let up on the harshness. some people like the non-organic clean tone which is cool but the guys u mention have tone pretty similar to my likings so i wanted to throw my opinion out there.
the geoge dennis i mentioned will get u some grind and nice overdrive but if u want page or ac/dc stuff put a boutique od pedal in front of the lead channel and uve got a pretty beautiful setup for less than the cost of a lonestar without any pedals etc. id also check out THDs offerings. www.thdelectronics.com

Yeah, I'm definately going for more of a Vox sound than a Fender sound.

I looked on the Fargen site and couldn't find anything about your amp. Is it not being made anymore? And is it a head or a combo?

I think I'm going to go to the Mesa/Boogie dealer in a couple weeks and check out a bunch of the amps he's got. He also has Riveras in stock. I spent a lot of time with a R55/12 at Guitar Center over Christmas Break. I was very impressed with the clean channel, but I just wasn't too impressed with the dirty channel. I like the crunch on my Peavey better to be honest. But maybe if I try out a different model of Rivera I will have a different opinion of that amp.

What about a THD Flexi with El-84 tubes? Would that work for what I want?

I'd definitely contact Ben and ask him about it. I'm not sure if they are still in production anymore, but so far he has given me great customer service and he's very responsive to e-mails. The Epic 30 clips on the site were actually done with the amp I own now.

When it gets a little closer to the time to buy the amp, I'll definately contact him.

And I couldn't find Epic 30 clips anywhere on the site...
