Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

I bought my acoustic when it was $550 new but a store had them for some sale, memorial day maybe, and I got it for $450. Thought it was pretty awesome, then about a month later, the company was discontinuing that model and was blowing them out for $229.

I bought my Pro Junior right before the HR III series came out and if I would have waited 3 weeks I would have saved about $50.

Happens all the time bro. Most of the time it irritates the crap out of me. That's why I try to buy used as much as possible or at least buy from places that have the 30+day price guarantee.

Re: Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

I did that with an Ipod once. Bought the 80GB Classic and the NEXT DAMN DAY they moved it over to the 120GB model.

Re: Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

bought my Epi Std LP about 3 months before the price went down by about $100. That would've almost paid for the shop-floor-custom red/black 59s. I wasn't used to companies dropping retail prices on their freaking "standard" models like that before. I was used to seeing them go up for like 5 years.

Well, i was way happy with the guitar at the time and so it didn't get to me much. Now they're like 399. Is agile giving them that much competition?

It seems to be a classic syndrome. You can wait forever to get the very very lowest price, but at some point you probably want to get the item to be able to get on with using it for what you want it for.

So in that way, it's kind of about what you want the item for, and how soon you'll be needing it. If it's like "One day i am going to buy a nice acoustic"....well, take your time and wait for a great price. On the other hand, if it's like "I need a Strat for this band i'm in now" ..... well obviously you need to get one pretty soon-ish, so you'll probably be looking around quickly and taking the best deal you can find at the present time.

(both of these are assuming you have your money ready ..... obviously if you don't have the money, it's going to take a little time to get that together so you'll probably auotmatically default to the first option).

But it is just typical that the minute you've finished the research and commited your cash .... they appear all over the place at a much-reduced price soon after. At least once you know that happens so often, you can take the attitude of "meh, i don't care, i got the best price at the time and i dig this item so much i'm happy anyway, it's still worth more to me than what i paid for it".

If you're not certain that a product is exactly what you want, wait a little while for a bargain-basement price so that there's not too much pain if it turns out to be a little less than ideal for you and you can probably recoup most of your money by selling it. If it is exactly what you want, you'll be getting your money's worth even if you did pay a little extra.

Every time i buy something i think "Yeah, i'll probably see these for a lot less next month, but it's what i want and i want to use it, and at least i can recommend it to friends who might benefit from cheaper prices along the track".

Yeah I just got a new amp a few weeks ago. A buddy called me THE NEXT DAMN DAY (agileguy love) and had a 15% coupon for the place I got *cough* GC.

Re: Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

Never happened to me. But then, my life's ****ing perfect. :friday:

Re: Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

I do a LOT of research before I make a purchase, first into various models within the category I'm considering, and then into price on the model I've decided upon.

But as soon as I've placed my order, I stop looking. Because if it goes on sale the next week, I don't want to know about it.

Re: Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

It just happens. Nothing you can do to change it. You get a better deal that the guy before you, and a worse deal than the guy after you. Just how it goes.

Re: Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

Yup. Waited and waited for my used Acoustic B200 bass combo, and then three days later, saw one go for $50 less. Oh well.

Re: Do you ever wish you would have waited to buy something?

ive had quite the opposite thus far. my guitar, cab, and head all have been great ebay buys. my guitar was new and at the time discontinued so half the current price. less then a year later (im not sure if it was a week or 52 weeks) it was back on the market and going for much closer to a grand. i think its about in between what i paid and what they originally asked when reissued. its just a schecter corsair, but ive done the work the to it and i love it.

and my peavey windsor i think i paid maybe 200 or 250. so 150 off aint bad. and then my cab is a perfect condition 18 and 2x10 bass cab that i paid 300 for and got free shipping...on ebay...a huge cab...with free shipping...

although my germanium OD i have a feeling, cost 120 or more when i bought it, which was when it first came out. and i know its about 80 now. although i know my echo was 120, so i could be thinking of that. i just really have this feeling like i paid double what it costs now. i could care less cuz of all the other deals ive got

and i suppose it comes down to parts and what you want, name aside. ive only ever had great deals when i search for it pretty hard. and like the OD, i just heard about it, heard germanium, and saw what it could do, and bought it. price was apparently irrelevant in hind site
