Do you like Ballbat necks?

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

i resemble that remark

Me too. I love old Hagstroms, but they suck to play because their necks are the pits! They're so thin that they needed to be reinforced by a metal I-beam truss rod. I gave my dad's old H-II to my cousin after my dad died. I loved the guitar, and it had been in the family for about 35 years, but I just hated playing it.

Looked like this one, except the headstock and neck were not painted:

That said, I'd pick up an old Swede in a second if one came along at a good price:

My hands aren't too big, so I preffer slimmer necks. The 60s slim taper one on my SG Special is perfect.

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

If you're not hurting your tendons, then it's not a good neck.

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

considering I am a tiny woman with tiny hands...Nope not really. I loved the graphics of the zakk wylde camo with a maple neck and fretboard but once I played it. No way. It felt horrid in my hands. i prefer a d shaped neck or a 60's slim neck.

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

I like big fatty necks for my detuned guitars. Play mostly heavy riffs and chords on those and they sound better and seen more sturdy so I feel good about treating them like a dirty third world hooker. But for faster solo work I like em thin like super models...

But either way I like em both.

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

A considerable portion of the guitar's tone comes from the neck. Given a choice, I'll take a bigger neck over a slimmer one.

+1. Skinny necks don't transfer as much vibration or tone. Massive necks can be tiring to play, so I like mine a little less thick than that, but I see no reason for anyone but Girl Scouts to insist on skinny necks. :cool2:

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

I need the SG baseball bat necks after I tried one. Nothing works as best with me. Comfortable to hold the neck in the classical guitar position with a thick neck to me.

Okay, you have a good reason, but some of these big palookas around here...

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

Depends on shape for me, but the only neck I've found absolutely hideous is the Smith Strats - no shoulder on the one I had

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

I have three T-style guitars.

1. Fender Nashville Tele
2. ESP TE-202
3. Partscaster

The Nashville and partscaster have modern C-shape necks and the ESP has a nice big, U-shape neck. It's much bigger than the other two and feels so much better. I love those huge Nocaster necks.

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

I have tiny hands (I often have to buy children's sizes of gloves as everything else is too big.)

I won't deny that thick necks have more sustain, but in for actually playing the guitar, I prefer stick-thin "shredder" necks even though I never shred.
