Do you like Ballbat necks?

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

I prefer fatter necks. I don't have the biggest hands but I'm an undisciplined rock player and thin necks make me cramp.

Ditto. We played Walking on Sunshine last night, a la Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and playing power chords at the F (low E) and A# at that speed cramps my hand. I was using my MIJ Strat that has a very comfortable neck, though not very thick, and it's murder on my hand muscles.

considering I am a tiny woman with tiny hands...Nope not really. I loved the graphics of the zakk wylde camo with a maple neck and fretboard but once I played it. No way. It felt horrid in my hands. i prefer a d shaped neck or a 60's slim neck.

Funny, I have that guitar and find it has a medium-sized neck. It's definitely not thin, but it's not a fatback either. The fretboard is wider than my Tele or Strat, so that may be contributing to making it feel bigger than the back actually is.

My Strat is deceptive like that, where it feels thicker than it is because of the way it sits deep into my hand (rounded shoulders).

My Squier Tele has the thickest neck of my guitars. It's not huge, but near the nut it feels very thick because the fretboard is thinner there, but just as deep as higher up on the neck, where it feels a bit thinner, but the fretboard is wider. An excellent feeling neck.

My 335 is a 60's slim. Strangely comfortable, depending on what I'm playing.

The thickest neck I've played was a Gibson Les Paul Studio - one of the newer ones from this year that was chambered and had a flat finish. The neck didn't have a lot of finish on it, so you could feel the grain. It was a baseball bat for sure. I loved it. I would have grabbed that, but found my '91 335 Studio and it was no contest.

The fatter the better for me but the shape has to be right too

Exactly. ... wait, were you talking about guitar necks? Well, either way ;)

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

Love 'em. I like the thick, soft V's even better, though. Like a baseball bat neck thickness, but with a very mild V to it.

Agree. I discovered that I love "Soft V" profile when I bought my Tele Baja.

Soft V is nice...gives me a place to rest my thumb during certain parts, and press with the heel of my hand for a while.

I prefer fatter necks. I don't have the biggest hands but I'm an undisciplined rock player and thin necks make me cramp.

i resemble that remark

Yes i do. My favorite guitars have a 1.2 inch asymmetrical neck. Round on the treble sife half-trapezoid on bass side. A w e s o m e feel.

This is damn close to my #1 preference. 1" asymmetrical bit of a shoulder on the bass side smooth C on the treble. Just perfect.

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

If you are hurting your tendons, then it's a bad neck for you. Why the hell would you want to hurt while playing? That's plain stupid.

Yeah, that wasn't serious. I have huge hands (Stand 6'1"), and my first real electric was my Grandpa's old Les Paul (I got it when he died, because at the time, I was the only one to play guitar). Unfortunately the guitar was damaged in a house fire, when the dog knocked over a candle during a power outage. It was never recovered.

I guess my large hands and the Les Paul really pushed my to prefer bigger necks. Plus, more mass under the strings means more sustain. Those necks just sound awesome.

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

My SG Classic neck was comfortable but I don't know if I would like it again. It was kinda thick and wide... It wasn't the thickness that bothered me but I hate wide boards now....

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

I love chunky guitar necks--I also love the smaller neck on my Mustang.

What I don't like are V necks or the flatter shredder guitar necks...

Re: Do you like Ballbat necks?

You're not the only one. Super-thin necks like what Ibanez makes to me feel really off, like there's just too much wood missing. In fact, it sorta reminds me of my acoustic guitar, very wide and thin. Works for nylon strings, less stellar for electrics, I find.
