Do you tip your guitar tech?

Re: Do you tip your guitar tech?

ye im my own tech these days too. once i had a blank strat pickguard and needed it routed for HHH so i took it the shop i usually went to. kept going back week after week only to find he still hadn't done it, then one day he threw it back at me and said he wasn't going to do it because i "didn't buy it from him" so i went to this other shop and he done it for me in no time for half the price the first guy quoted, so i tipped him. the other guy went out of buisness! lol

Re: Do you tip your guitar tech?

i'm now my own tech on 99% of things, except for the machine inserts and if I have a heavy solder job. I tend to tip for heavy things

Re: Do you tip your guitar tech?

I guess the general consensus is no tipping.

I did feel bad about a week ago when I brought my bass in about a "crackling" input jacked and the guy at Guitar Center fixed it for nothing. I wanted to tip him but I only had a $20 on me.

Re: Do you tip your guitar tech?

I've been to a tech once to get my lil59 installed a few years ago. No tip.

I hate giving tips, to anyone, period. I have a hard time understanding why I should pay someone extra for doing their job. Do you tip your garbageman? What about the salesclerk in the clothing store?

I'll probably never understand the whole thing unless I start waiting on people. But then I think it's a matter of getting a tip and being angry at everyone else who doesn't. What would the world be like if we never started tipping in the first place?

Ignore me, I get heated up when the topic is tipping people.

:D

there are some jobs such as waiting tables where the government sets the minimum wage assuming people are going to tip them.......... however guitar tech is not one of them.

it been i while but when i was younger i worked at a lot of restraunts back then minimum wage was 5.15 hr. waitress got 2.13 hr

Re: Do you tip your guitar tech?

Depends how complicated and well a job they do, typically i dont, as i never pass them work thats too challenging, however for a re-fret and setup ill tip
