Do you wash your hands before you handle your guitars or are you more carefree?

Re: Do you wash your hands before you handle your guitars or are you more carefree?

Before you play your guitars do you feel the need to wash your hands or are you more carefree and just pick up and play? Whether you just got home from work, just ate, or whatever else you do before you pick up your guitar. I always wash my hands before handling any of my gear because I can't stand the feeling of sticky or slimmy hands on a guitar neck. Not only that but it seems to cut down on the grime and buildup that gets on your gear if you don't wash your hands before you play. Discuss.... :D

Therapy is your friend....:)

I always wash my hands before I play; it actually fells gross when playing if I don't.

I wash before and after handling guitars. Whether it's cleaning, fixing up, or playing, the hands are washed first, especially if i'm using other peoples guitars.

I always have washed my hands before playing my guitars as the acid in my fingers can turn a G sring black in two or three plays!
Also funky crud on the neck, dosen't equal great playing. My 24 year old 1983 '57 Fender reissue Fullerton Strat has neck varnish like new, just from cleaning my hands and polishing it....

That? No, that’s not a sweat stain… that’s not grime… that’s mojo!

Short of my fingertips being really oily or my hands visibly dirty, I won’t wash my hands on account of my guitar. In other words, I wash my hands when they need washed, and the guitar doesn’t dictate that.

I don't really see how Finger grease is gonna "kill" strings. I mean I dunno about you, But My finger tips don't really sweat, haha. I have never wash my hands before playing guitar, don't really even wash my hands that often (three times a day Max, not counting when they get cleaned in the shower everyday).
Some people have that acid sweat that just kills strings.

Nope I don't generally wash my hands when I go to the bathroom. I tend to keep my **** pretty clean, so I don't really think its nessicarry. haha. I do go to the bathroom fairly often though. I have a tiny little bladder (its true my doctor said so!), and I drink tons of liquids so I piss probably 20 times a day. But being as I have been pissing since I was born, I've gotten pretty good at it. So good infact that I NEVER piss on my hands. So I feel no need to wash them. If you feel the need to wash your hands after touching your own ****, Maybe you should clean your **** more often, or stop pissing on your hands.

Now If I go Poo, then Yes I wash my hands. But I don't tend to Poo more than twice a day, and generally Only once a day.

That's ****ing nasty. I don't care how clean you think your **** is, you're still touching the thing you piss out of, and the handle of the toilet or urinal and the door to the bathroom that all the other people who have worse hygiene than you are touching. Do you want to touch my hand after my **** has been in my hand? I don't want to touch yours.

Wash your hands after using the restroom. Hand washing is the easiest thing you can do to prevent spreading germs and infection. It's not as glib as saying "don't piss on your hands" it's just very basic hygiene.

I wash my hands after using the restroom, before and usually after eating and anytime they get dirty. I don't wash my hands before playing unless they're dirty or sweaty.

There was this Marine Sergeant and Army PFC. They met each other at the men's room door. The PFC opened the door and held it open for the Sergeant.

Once inside, both went to the urinals. The PFC finished first, zipped himself up and walked towards the door.

The Sergeant noticed this and remarked in a rather condescending tone: "Son, when I was back in basic training, my Drill Sergeant taught us to wash our hands after using the urinal!"

Not even slowing down, the PFC replied: "My Drill Sergeant taught us not to piss on our hands." :smack:

No, I don't wash my hands before playing. It softens the callouses on my left hand. (dang... was it non-PC to imply that I am right handed???)
