DOD250 vs. Peavey Demonizer

Ok, both indorsed by YJM I saw pic of YJM's stage pedal boards and the Demonizer was there, I've listened to Demonizer's clips on Peavey site and I am in love, too bad I have other things on the agenda in the rig and don't have 300 bucks to spend on a single unit. Demonizer is a tone monster, tweakability is beyond belief, sorry beloved SD but Demonizer beats SFX-03 by my standards hands down. So do you guys think that may be YJM uses Demonizer live and DOD for recording, because I doubt DOD will clean up with the volume on guitar as much as Demonizer does and just tone wise .... sorry, i don't think DOD can come close with two ECC83s and such a great tweakability options. I could see how DOD straight into Vintage non-master volume Marshalls can laydown great raw track to wet the tone later-on on the board ... What do you think?

I just looked up the Demonizer on the web and looked at some of it's features. Seems to me that it is a very different unit than the DOD and as such maybe not so easy to compare as they're made to do different things. The Demonizer has far more gain on tap than the DOD, that's for sure. I've never used the SFX-03 so I can't comment on it.

If you just want to goose your amp over the edge, the DOD will do the job. If you want something to provide the basis of your tone, the Demonizer would be better, IMO.

Yngwie allways use the DOD live, its together with his Marshall and strat, the core of his sound.

DOD is a great pedal to do all the over the top stuff :)

Allright, but I did see the Demonizer in the pics, what do you think he is using it for ?

Re: DOD250 vs. Peavey Demonizer

I bought the DOD YJM Yngwie Malmsteen pedal. It's by far the worst pedal I have- very noisy, not much boost at all. I prefer the Zakk Wylde booster or any Ibanez TS-9 or TS-9DX.

Wasn't Damage Control a different brand that it appears Peavey bought out?

From the description it sounds like Malmsteen uses it as a direct box, not as an overdrive unit for his live or recording amps

Re: DOD250 vs. Peavey Demonizer

Okay ,i am the only one who plyed and tested both i think (when i read the posts).

Demonizer is a real tone monster ,and if played with the right clean amp ,it can be a real tasty pedal.

The voicing is really tweakable ,and the compression is amazing! It's a perfect direct to PA gadget ,and works better than any modeller.
But ,as an OD pedal ,i think it's too hot and noisy!I tested it with some amps ,and tweaked the hell out of it!

So i would use it with a powerblock or a poweramp ,since it's the best "versatile pedal" preamp on the market! If you just want a OD with the tubes ,try the womanizer. It suits better!

Hmmmm, you see, my Laney is a single channel amp, meaning no foot switch between clean and dirty channel, so for songs where I will have to switch between clean and driven i was thinking of just quikly switching stand by on, pluging into clean channel, flicking standby off, and flicking a Y A/B switch where I would have an MXR Dist+ now since what you said about Demonizer I am thinking of the same thing ..... plus it has a line out too, so it could give me a lot of options with one purchase.

Yess!!
BTW ,the Cleans of Demonizer are descent! You have to see it as a 2/3 channel Preamp.Clean ,crunch and boosted!

It's a good idea to have it.And if you can "tweak" the right combination between the demonizer and laney distortion ,it can be heavenly!Or you can use it direct in the FX loop(If you have one) ,so you can have more than 4 channels!
