does anyone know if the handmade USA BC Rich's are any good?

Re: does anyone know if the handmade USA BC Rich's are any good?

The custom shop isn't cheap (2-3K and up, up, up) and it takes a while to build but the instruments are very good as they've always been. I stand by the 80's NJ series for their fantastic necks and a good number of them came with Kahler tremolos, which are amazing. For this year, BC Rich has come out with import neck thru axes with Floyds, and an "NJ Classic" type that resembles their handmade stuff. Mockingbirds come in both these types, but the jury is out on their quality. I've never truly had a problem with even the newer imports from BC Rich, save for those with the god awful speedloader Floyd. Perhaps your dealer will get some of the new models in sometime soon so that you can try them. I can say with confidence that the old NJ series is terrific and I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up if you like the looks. Pics of the new models are on www.bcrich.com .

The USA Riches are fantastic guitars, both in build quality and in cosmetics, definitely comparable to a USA Jackson :headbang:

US made Rich's are extremely nice guitars. Of course, like anything else, this doesn't mean it is the guitar that will feel the best to you, but well worth a try.

Take one for a test ride. ;)

Re: does anyone know if the handmade USA BC Rich's are any good?

I just sold my USA Jackson KV2 to custom order a USA BC Rich Wave Supreme. I own two USA BC Riches already, a Bich Supreme and a Mockingbird Supreme. I had USA Jackson's previously, a KV2 Korina, KE2 and SL2H, to buy those. I love my BC Riches. I couldn't think of another guitar I would want aside or instead of them. (Between my BC Riches and my Mesa Dual Recto I have my dream rig. kinda sucks having your dream rig, nothing quite compares from that point on) Jacksons are great guitars as well and this isn't to take away from them at all. I played my KV2 and my Bich back to back for a couple weeks. The Bich just feels like home to me.

thanks everyone, i was eather going to get the Mockingbird supreme, or a Jackson KV2 with blue ghost flames. for the prices, i can get both of them for around the same 1800, the dealer is giving me a good price for the BC Rich. h8red how would u compair the necks between the KV2 and your bich supreme? id just asume the mockingbird supreme will have the same neck on it.

Actually, the body and neck blanks are built in T.J., Mexico, then run up to the old shop in Hesperia where they are finished. Personally, I'd go with Moser Custom Shop, that way you get one of the original BC Rich luthier's building it entirely by hand and better than anything else out there for the price. And you will get it right the first time... www.mosercustomshop.com

I though when Davitt Hanser bought out BC Rich they moved the USA Custom shop to Cincinatti or Chicago?

That was the original plan, but the new shop was going to use CNC machines and they couldn't get their act together. So, they went back to BC South (TJ) and Hesperia and they've been using them for the last two or three years. However, there have been MAJOR QC problems with the USA guitars ever since HHI took over. From what I've personally seen, I wouldn't trust them with my custom order.

The Jackson neck is A LOT FASTER. Way thin, though not Ibanez thin. The Rich neck has a bit of thickness and heft to it, but it just feels better to me. Like I said both are awesome guitars. Probably the deciding factor for me is BC Rich makes shapes I like better than a V. I was at one point considering custom ordering a Custom KV2 with Mahogany neck and sides with flamed maple top. Basically same build materials as my Bich and Mockingbird. But I decided to go for a Wave Supreme instaed as I've never had one.
