Dokken Bucker

Re: Dokken Bucker

I didn't get to play w/ it much today, but man this thing has got some thump! Definitely going to have to do some EQ adjusting for this pickup. It's all bass and highs right now. Sounds good though. Lots of that 80's growl.

Re: Dokken Bucker

I recall hearing that the Dokkenbucker was something like a JB, but with a regular thickness ceramic. Though if the pickup is really as thick as a DD, then maybe that isn't the case.

Re: Dokken Bucker

Even though I only recently joined the SD forum, I've been eyeing this thread for years. I want one!

Does the SD custom shop still make these?

Does the SD custom shop still say they won't build one? .

Did someone say that MJ won't make one? I didn't catch that.

Also, there is at least as much that MJ offers than what is shown on the website. Call her or email her and ask about what she can make.

I read on here a while back, I'll try to find it again.
Edit: Wrong answer, it was another forum. Misinformation. I will edit my previous post.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion!

p.s. What happened to all your previous comments in this thread?

Re: Dokken Bucker

Looks like he edited them away.

You could ask him about it. I don't get the impression that he's a difficult person to reach.

My take on things: you could buy a second-hand JB and put a single-thick ceramic in it for a fraction of what you'd pay to have one built. If you were to have a large group of people audition each pickup in the same guitar without knowing which was which and state their preferences, I wouldn't be surprised if the results were split. If that isn't provocative enough, instead of a JB+, how about testing the Dokkebucker against a DD HB-103B?

Re: Dokken Bucker

I repeat - a Distortion and quality time with a high end delay.

Ace has got it right.

I had one of the original ESP USA Custom Kamikazes, made before the Screamin' Demon came out. With a stock Duncan Distortion, I remember it had 'that' tone. I just put a DD in a maple bodied GMW today with the same excellent results. Enhance it with some plate reverb or analog delay and there you go. Playing it through a Silver Jubilee head or a Suhr Badger with a Friedman BE-OD.

I don't have a way to record right now but I do have a pics.
