Re: DOUBLE SCREW COIL humbucker, with metal cover, without going full custom?
I'm surprised to hear you guys say the Demon was dark. The tone chart shows it as bright as the Jazz, and more so than the Full Shred.. and I know a bunch of people here like Demon in the neck..
- but your input is welcome.
I actually never cared for the Jazz, it seems too bright to me, too much high treble. - I'm sure it's good for certain things. - I don't think I'd care for a Full Shred Neck, at the neck.
I think it would also be a bit bright for me. ?
DiMarzio does make several models with double screw coils, but from what I can tell, they all seem a little midrange heavy to me. I seem to not like Dimarzio pickups generally, compared to Duncans, they always sound too mid focused, and in just the wrong place for me, with the possible exception of the AREA series noiseless singles. - I know Dimarzio are well made, I just think they are aiming at something different than I am. - Their "PAF"-classic style bucker might be OK, but not better to me than a '59, - and it just has the one row of screws..
BTW; I know I'm putting a terribly fine point on all this.
- I KNOW I like the Custom5, and I KNOW I like the '59, (probably the "bridge" model in the neck..)
- I KNOW if I just got those two, they would sound DAMN FINE, and I'd be pretty happy.
- So we're just talking "in a perfect world" type stuff here. - Plus I find this all fascinating..
Really, the only thing that I might like different than the Custom5 @ bridge, and '59b @ neck, would be for that '59 to have two rows of screws, so that I can lower the neck-side screws under the 5th & 6th low strings, and raise the screws on the "bridge-side" of this neck pickup, under the 5th & 6th low strings..
I could make up a two-screw-coil '59 from two other '59s, or I could have Duncan make it for me, and they will either charge full-custom-shop price, or possibly a bit less, since it's existing parts.
We've all just been trying to see if something that already exists, or could be very lightly modified, (different screws, a cover..) would get me close enough..
Thanks for everyone's help.
