Dream strat incoming!

In 1988 I was 16 years old and worshipped Yngwie, and when Fender released the Malmsteen signature strats, I wanted one more than anything. But I was not even remotely able to afford one.

Now 24 years later, I finally have one coming my way! :D

I have spent a few days really thinking hard, which model to go for?
While it would be really nice to buy a brand new one, I figured I wanted something closer to what Yngwie actually used back when he was at his best.
The current ones are just a bit too much, with monster frets and Grand Canyon scallops, and I most certainly don't want the Seymour Duncan pickups.

So I decided I wanted the guitar I longed for back in 88'.
Pulled the trigger just a few minutes ago, on a 1988 Fender YJM , seems to be a really early one, judging by the Dimarzio tuners, which was supposedly changed to Klusons later in 88'.

Will be interesting to hear if the 88' HS-3's are different than the current ones as well. :)

Totally stoked now! !!!! ;D
Here's some crappy pictures from the auction, I'll of course update the thread with some great photos when it arrives.

Will probably upgrade the trem with Callaham bent steel saddles and steel sustain block, the Am.Std bridge is the only drawback it seems.

I guess I have to apologize, this strat comes with DiMarzios! :D

YES YES YES

This is most excellent.

And there's nothing wrong with wanting the DiMarzios. I know I would for it to be uh 'period' correct. I liked his older tone anyways.

Rock the hell out of it.

Dude, that's sweet. I had a mid 90's one in Sonic Blue that I really miss. It had such a great tone!

The newer ones feel different and play different to be certain. Still great but different.

The HS-3's are perfect in these guitars. The Duncan versions are outstanding to be sure (and my favorites overall) and can get early YJM tones but sound thicker to me. For that airy tone the HS-3's are the pickups though.

Thanks guys! :)

A few Yngwie riffs on my Peavey strat, HS-2 bridge, HS-3 in neck:

Wow no kiddin'! That sounds fantastic for an emulation.

You have a great ear for tone Living Dead!

Emulation through USB is the cleanest and shortest signal path for recording the essence of an electric guitar.

Damn Blix, I favorited that page of yours, the tones are PERFECT and the playing is top notch. I am highly impressed!

yeah, but you have to remeber, its a shortcut. Lets not get all crazy with this.
I wouldnt personally even think of doing that.
I am a purist.

Re: Dream strat incoming!

Grats on the guitar!

Hope it works for you. I tried scalloped frets back in about '85, I just couldn't deal with it, but it sure works for Yngwie.

I agree his best playing and tones were in the '84-88 era, so I can sympathize with wanting one from back then. The sound he got on "far beyond the sun' is still one of the most 'vocal like' guitar tones I've ever heard. A lot of that is in his fingers/vibrato control I think.
