Dumb question...but what is echo?

Is echo just a delay pedal with the delay time low and the repeats high? or do they have pedals specifically dedicated to echo?

I have an Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo. A delay is purely a repeat. An echo has some degradation on each repeat in order to simulate an echo in "nature."

Not much difference between the two, really.

I had always thought that "echo" was typically a term associated with analog delays with relatively short maximum delay times.

Immediate/short delay repeat with a gradual volume reduction, like a real life echo.

To be honest though, I think allot of delays are labelled echos. most have adjustable parameters & it doesnt really matter what you call them tbh.

The same **** thing as a delay lol.

Well, here: the idea behind a delay and an echo is not necessarily how it sounds, but where it occurs in nature.

You see, technically, a delay is the sound you hear when you attend a big rock show and you happen to be waaaaaay in the back, where there are speakers playing what is being played onstage: the difference is that since it takes time for the sound to travel through all those cables a good 60 yards or so, there is, quite literally, a DELAY.

Where as an echo is technically just yelling at the Grand Canyon.

Do they sound similar? Sure. It's a repeat. We get it.

The only real difference between them, I suppose, would be the ORIGIN.
