Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

I have an idea, couldn't we make a sticky thread where mods for specific pickups are listed? Seems there's a lot of pickup-specific threads being made, would be neat to have it all in one place.

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

I only needed to read the title of this thread to know my answer would be Custom 8. Why not try out a $5 magnet first instead of moving on to another pickup? Surface and I have posted quite a few
Custom 8 clips on tonefinder.com

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

I'm still not sure if he's actually talking about the Custom (SH5), its not scooped. The Custom 5 is scooped and people often get them confused.

The clips you have of the COUA5 are really good too. For what a lot of guys say is a "bluesier" HO pickup, it has a really cool grind. I dig it alot. :headbang:

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

Hey Guys,

I am talking about the Duncan Custom SH-5, when I tried it, It was in an LTD Edward's eclipse, with a mahogany body, mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard, Could the feel of being scooped I have felt due to the Mahogany body and neck( too much dark tone) I have tried it thru an ENGL fireball 100 head, Currently my guitar is an Artist series from Samick with an Alder Body, Maple neck and Ebony fretboard with a Ccocobolo top veneer, Will the SH-5 in An this guitar will sound not mid scooped compared to the LTD??

I'm sure that different wood combinations make differences in the same pickup.

waiting for the feedbacks.

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

BTW, difference between UO and roughcast, anyone?

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

from the clips i heard it still sounds like the custom 8 has tamed highs like the alt 8

Those clips he had a link to are for a Custom8,,not a CUOA5.

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

Update for who are looking for the Pickup I am searching for,

I have tried the duncan designed pickup that came with the Samick guitar , I removed the magnet ( it is ceramic, so this is based upon the Duncan Distortion TB-6 pickup, but it has a standard sized magnet and not the oversized magnet of the DD, and replaced it with The A8 magnet and the result is the most versatile pickup that satisfied me, it has A tight , Big and fat 3D Bottom end even much more than the original ALT8 without being compressed or muddy in any way, the mids very clear and you can dial your mids to be scooped ( to me like the George lynch signature) or ear piercing as SH-4, the highs are so clear without being harsh at all, this is my ultimate pickup for everything soloing and rhythms. If any one have a real DD, Please do us a favor and put A8 in it and inform us about how it sounds, as i Know the are some differences between Seymour duncans and Duncan Designed.

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

Maybe a 15k ceramic. It would be like a custom but I think a higher wind would add mids? Since it wouldn't be double thick it may not compress so bad? I am just guessing. Maybe even a jb +

DC Resistance of this duncan designed measures 16.4 Exactly.

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

DC readings are affected by temperature, roughly a 1% by every 2.5° C. DC readings are taken @ 20°C

So, a p'up that reads 16.8K @ 25° C, the actual nominal reading is 16.47K.

Remember, a 2% variation in turns is audible, and as most readings published by non winders are in average taken @ 24°C in Spring and Autumn, 28°C in summer and 22°C in winter.

Confused yet? ;)

HTH,

That's the 'Blueman Signature' Custom. I love the combination of muscle & vintage dynamics and response. I've got that PU in a few guitars (LP, SG, and 335). Great for blues and classic rock.

Im thinking of going through a Custom and it's other "personas". Whats neat about that COUA5 in frankin's clips, is it sounds great doing mastodon. If it can do blues, classic tones AND mastodon, that's awesome.

Thanks, that is definitely my go-to guitar for recording. I don't think the Custom uoa5 would work in every guitar, but my LP custom copy (Agile 3100) has the really bright immediate attack that you get from an ebony board. I counteract that with the warm, dynamic cuoa5 and the results have been great. Although, I have to say, I could play just about anything through the mxr zw and my xxx and it would sound very tight.
