E standard vs alternate tunings

Re: E standard vs alternate tunings

Because it's not very metal to adhere to "standard" anything lol.

In reality though, many guitarists are "treble shy" so are forever trying to dull any and all high end spikes.

Which is an error. Bright sounds cut through the mix. Dark sounds == your soundman hates you.

Re: E standard vs alternate tunings

I love Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under!
SFU is a perfect example of being heavy and defined with lower tunings because the guitars breathe in the mix and have their own frequency. You need space to be heavy sometimes.

E standard vs alternate tunings

New tunings just allow for different playing styles, if I had to stick to one tuning it would be c standard since it's a good balance between standard and super low tunings however an 8 string would be a good option if you were limited to one tuning
I play in everything from E standard to Drop A just because of the bands I listen to.
Tuning lower doesn't necessarily make you heavy it just allows certain phasings to sound heavy
Shredding in Drop A usually doesn't sounds as good as in standard but Chugging maybe better in drop A
All personal preference at the end of the day

for recording treble on guitar tracks can be EQ'd reasonably, as where Crash Symbols Cannot ( I've made some Very good drummers Remove them Completely for recording ~ Drop C Heavy music . Crashes can Ruin good Tracks if U dont know what Your listening to

My friend says all he hears in VH tracks is crashes.

Re: E standard vs alternate tunings

Well many drummers just abuse the crash,,,,both in volume and frequency.
As a drummer myself I must constantly resist the temptation, and then as an added benefit it will have more impact then when you do decide to go ballistic.

.

That is well put , Dave . my Drummer ( an ex-Drummer of a Guy U who Seymour makes a popular pickup Model of in His Namesake ) Laughed the 1st. time I told Him to Remove the Crash , then when He realized I was serious He got a little confused and pissed . I Said dont worry - I'll get these 2 Tracks or so I need + then we'll let You put it back on . i could Not afford to Pay $ for more time spent on the Tracks and still hearing Cymbal ruining it . BTW ~ And He is a Great Drummer Who has worked with many musicians . I know it was weird for Him to Not have the Crash sitting there on it's hardware ~ He lived through it : ).
