Early Duncan EVH pickup

Re: Early Duncan EVH pickup

The red ink label was Changed from "The JB model" to black ink "JB" not "the jb".

A pup labeled "78" did not exist in 1978.

Like I said in the other "hijacked" thread. 78=EVH

The name changed about 4 years ago. Try some forum searches and you'll see the majority of this stuff has been covered multiple times.

Re: Early Duncan EVH pickup

Yes, so that raises the BIG question that has not yet been answered...

What was the first SD hum pup advertised and marketed that was not a rewind?

Was it the PUP that EVH complained about findng the ad in a Guitar Player magazine using his name, or the JB or were those 2 one in the same at that time in 78?

Wow , I can picture this guys face beat red with smoke pouring out of his ears as he typed this.

I love that a guy with the forum name 51501984 said this!!! :)

If that other dude spent half as much time working on his own sound/style as he did chasing a phantom pickup that never existed (sorry dude...it never really existed. SD wound special unique pickups for rock stars, and [THE HORROR] probably still does [as he does for any other customer]), he might actually have a really cool sound/style of his own.

In closing: there is already an Eddie Van Halen. If you're so obsessed with copping that sound, just find something that sounds good to you in your bedroom. Do you really think you're going to make millions or establish a name for yourself or have any kind of music career (aside from playing in another cheesy "tribute band") copying someone else's style and sound??? Seriously???

On todays market, isn't the SD EVH the hotter PUP marketed by Fender.. in new or reliced forms?
...and the SD 78 the lower output PUP?

This is exactly the reason that brings up the theory that JB = The Van Halen Special in the first days of Marketing! And that Van Halen Special was a hot output PUP!

This is exaclty [SIC] the reason that brings up the theory that JB = The Van Halen Special in the first days of Marketing! Or the Van Halen Speical [SIC] was a hot output PUP!

That doesn't even make any sense. Seriously. It's like a bizarre alcohol, drug, or mania-induced manifesto. I'd like to presume to speak on behalf of the majority of the members here on the forum (not the company, I will not presume to speak for them): buy the EVH, or the JB, or the '78, or the Custom Custom pickup, or all of them, or the EVH guitar, or the Charvel guitar, or whatever, and cease these endless threads and pointless, ridiculous questions. Please.

So,,,how many EVH pups are there?

The first one marketed in 1978 the Special Van Halen
The JB
The 78
The custom custom
The Fender EVH new
The Fender EVH Reliced
The Evenly Voice Harmonics
The Peavey
The EBMM Dimarzios
The EVH Wolfgang

It all seems to be a simple marketing Scheme to get people to buy something they do not need and NO single EVH PUP ever existed because he constantly used several!

The majority of pups he used were high output, right?

Re: Early Duncan EVH pickup

It does not make a difference. The pickup is such a small part of his tone. EVH also used Duncan '59's at some point in his 5150 Kramer. You can take any of those pickups mentioned and they'll get you in the ballpark- then you need the right guitar, the right amp, tweaking, and his fingers.

It's not a marketing ploy. EVH was constantly tinkering to get the tone he heard in his head, and went through alot of pickups in the process. Seymour Duncan probably won't release it, (because EVH won't allow it) but I bet they have documentation like purchase order showing pickups EVH bought from Duncan over the years, including Custom Shop.

So, a 9k ohm is going to be in the same ballpark as a 15k ohm pup..
Ok thanks, gotcha!

The '78 and the "evenly voiced harmonic," and the "special VH" are the same pickup just with different names. The fender "new" and fender "reliced" are the same pickup just one is aged and one isnt. The JB has ALWAYS been the JB and has (to my knowledge) has never had an association with Mr. Van Halen. You need to do some more research before you start posting information.

Re: Early Duncan EVH pickup

These are questions not information...how do you know that first EVH pup was called the "Special VH"?

Re: Early Duncan EVH pickup

EVHGUITARS,im sure you have gone to the Metro Amp site, there was a person on that site named Nitro who was extemely knowledgeable about EVH and alot of the questions you are asking,if you look and nitro history on the metro site and the knowledge he gave will help you a great deal,he was banned from that site because he wouldnt take crap from some people(small amount),he was banned because of a member on that site named Marco, a complete idiot,he would call people names and say thing like your stupied and you dont know what your talking about, anyway nitro wouldnt take his **** and defend himself,so instead of banning the idiot who knew nothing the gutless administrator from that site banned nitro and kept the moron(marco)that started the crap,he also started crap with other people on that site this guy(marco)thought he knew everything about EVH but didnt know ****,everything he learned about EVH was due to nitro and some other members,im rambling on here, sorry about that but i did learn alot fron Nitro on that site,i hope this helps you out................

Re: Early Duncan EVH pickup

Thanks, One thing is for sure, there was NO SD custom custom in 78 or in the early 80s catalog,
So, I wonder when that one was first put out...wasn't it supposedly an early Duncan EVH PUP as well?
