Hey guys, I've been messing with this for a weekish now and I can't figure it out.
I'm trying to play Aint Talkin Bout Love with an echoplex and get that cool slapback effect but its not working for me. I'm not sure if it's how I'm playing it and i'm just bad, or if the settings are wrong. I watched a video of Pete Thorn using it for the song and I tried to copy his exact settings but it sounds nothing like his video. It's like when I turn it on it's mushy and not defined at all. That's why I'm wondering if it's just my playing.
Below are 2 videos, The first is with the echoplex off, and the second is with it on. The third is a picture with my echoplex settings.
Any suggestions? I've tried with 2 different amps, an evh el34 and the one in the video is a rectoverb 25 on vintage settings. Like, I think it sounds ok with the echoplex off (to my 1.5year playing standard anyway), but when I turn it on it just sounds bad.
Edit - I forgot to add one thing. This is with the pedal in front of the amp, so my signal chain just goes guitar--> echoplex --> amp input. I heard that's apparently imperative to the whole effect, but tbh when I tried it in the effects loop it sounded a little better.
