Edana Vs Vintage Modern Marshall

Since I own an Edana and have finally sat down to play a vintage modern marshall today for the first time ever, I thought I should post my personal observations about the amp.

1 - The Edana can do anything the VM can do with the addition of a couple of OD pedals. The VM's sound tries to get into biting vicious territory, but it just doesn't quite make it there. The bottom end is too loose for modern sounds. It doesn't do the Angus thing like the Edana does. It's interesting and it does the vintagy thing alright, but the Edana is a far better tone-machine!

2 - The Edana is warmer and clearer with better cleans.

3 - The Edana is cheaper.

4 - The Edana is prettier.

5 - The Edana is better built with higher quality parts.

By "vintage modern Marshall," what model are you referring to? Also, what OD pedals did you use in combination with the Edana to get the variety you mentioned?

I agree!

I own Edana 007 and have own and still own several Marshalls.

Edana has a special vibe that is as good, yet different in a better sense that a lot of Marshalls out there. I can get clean and driven out of the same amp.

I do jump channels with a patch cord. Something that older Marshalls and Fender Bassmans (With AB165 circuit) can do, but so many amps today can not!

Pedals....

OCD, several other Fulltone pedals, Plexitone, TS-808, Klon, etc... All sound good for overdrive.

Maybe, I post more for Scott_F to add to his web site.

Re: Edana Vs Vintage Modern Marshall

Awe heck! Now Jmoose is gonna accuse me of being a shill for Celtic amps... He'd almost be right except that ScottF is joking about the check. I only wish he weren't joking about it, but he is. Of course, I'd prefer to be paid in amplifiers ScottF... See what you can do about that willya?

As far as pedals go, I use the venerable Tubulator for tubescreamerish gain boost. I also use a straight ahead clean boost made by DOD (bifet boost) with a tone knob on it to give the amp a different kind of push. Not as much of a midrange push that way, so it comes across a little more balanced. Both give me what I need to make the Edana sound pretty heavy all by themselves. Just give the Edana an EMG-81 equipped les paul running through the tubulator at max gain and it's nearly uncontrollable. The amp then sounds incredibly heavy and vicious while still having a sweet edge to it that puts the vintage modern's stock sounds to shame. Sounds a bit like a pushed SLO-100 then.

Never mind, I checked the marshall site for the first time in years.
