Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

Re: Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

This is the only Dean headstock I don't want to throw on a campfire, so good for them.

Re: Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

Almost perfection, there. The headstocks are ugly, and don't match the bodies IMO.

Re: Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

I think the headstock looks really good on the Z. Do ****ing want

Re: Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

Finally, someone makes a rear routed V, my dislike of gold/binding/inlays notwithstanding. Could live with the headstock if the guitar were awesome.

Re: Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

I think it's a side-effect that comes with some of the best-looking headstocks. Gibson, Jackson pointy, Kramer -- all cool-looking headstocks with some unfortunate geometry, from a purely functional perspective.

As much as I really don't care for the old Dean V headstock, I liked it on the Cadillac, for some reason. I think it balances the whole guitar out really well.
You're right, of course, it is a clear case of form over function. But at least the Jackson and Kramer headstocks were always meant to be used on Floyd guitars with locking nuts, thus making it a non-issue. But when you use a "normal" nut then the fewer points of friction / angles equal the least chances for the strings to bind. What one should be aiming for is a completely straight line from the bridge to the tuner post, preferably with no aids such as string trees and such.

And honestly, how ofter do you look at your guitar's headstock?
Sure I can see myself not liking a particular headstock but still, I'd prefer a headstock I'm not thrilled about to one where I constantly need to re-tune...

This post doesn't make me want to throw YOU on the fire. :lmao:

FOr pure 'none blacker' secks, I gotta go with Mincer's Dean V. It was actually shipped to the depths of Hell to painted black by Satan himself. Took long enough...

I personally like the big V headstock. It's part of Dean-ness of them. But I think for fans of the guitars - and they are as good as any good guitar out there, and usually way better for the price, great job.

I personally dig the headstock shape in general. It comes on those Mustaine's I've been GASing on. But I don't generally l;ike it on the classic V/ML/Z's I think they need the Dean stock. Now, on the new V's and Zeros, excellent choice.

I'd rather see a shrimpfork on a Caddy.

The Jackson headstock was designed by Randy Rhoads to be used on his Concorde, which had a Tune-O-Matic. To Floyd or Not to Floyd was not the question. It was never even on the same table as the napkins and pen.

In theory, yes. In practice, as soon as the string vibrates it has contact on all edges that can have contact, and a properly cut nut will still alleviate all of these issues and more. If the theory held 100% true and headstock shape did not have actual effects on tone and playability as well, then even acoustic guitars would have been using Stauffer headstocks (the original 6-inline design) for well over 100 years.

"Ibanez is killing us in sales. What have they got that we don't?"

Worst...headstock...ever. Give me that shrimpfork any day.

Re: Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

You mean a DEAN V or ML without that FUGLY V headstock that makes the guitars so neck heavy that the neck heads to the floor as soon as you let the guitar go with your hand and a non V neck profile?? WOW that is a BIG step up!

I've never had a neck-heavy Dean, and I've owned more than a few.

Re: Ehrmagherd Dean has finally done something right!

I like the Z with that headstock just fine, if you took off the gold **** and the binding.

That headstock really doesn't look right on anything else there though.

Are you coming to the Dean stuff next weekend? Tour at Dean Friday 10am-1pm.

GAAAAH. If I knew earlier I would have made time to go. Plus I have class at 10:00 :( And not enough gas to get to Tampa. When is the next one? I would love to make another trip down there.
