EJ on a SG

I know, a million EJ clips... but I thought this was interesting as he's playing a SG (and wearing an odd zebra shirt). Man, he sounds like himself no matter what guitar he plays.

Re: EJ on a SG

Fun fact - I was actually at this gig. The Grove of Anaheim, 2006. He was opening for Joe Satriani and they taped both performances, although this was released a few years after Satch's taping of this was. Great performances from both guys!!

It's not unusual to see him onstage with Gibsons though. Last time I saw him at the HOB Anaheim he had a Goldtop Les Paul with him (don't remember if it had P90s or not) and he's also got a burst model... not sure if it's vintage or not. The SG comes out fairly often, as does his ES335.

Cool. Amazing player. Incredible finger work.

Re: EJ on a SG

I love the way he serenades you before melting your face off. A womanizer, clearly.

Seriously though, the chordy stuff in so many Cliffs of Dover performances I've seen is truly awe inspiring

Damn that SG is killer. I read about it in a few interviews, it's one of the few he's played that stay in tune, ha

I know he plays Gibsons, but this was the first time I'd seen him on a SG. Great performance, no doubt.

Re: EJ on a SG

It's funny but I really love watching and listening to EJ, I really dig his playing but I really don't like his music. I watch a bunch of his gear demo videos and lesson videos and I'm basically blown away, but I can't really get into his music. He sounds pretty sweet with a gibson, whether its an SG or a 335, but I think I like his sound more with a strat. His tone is sooo thick and lush that the humbuggies are nearing mud town. The strat suits him well.

Also, in one of his gear demos he does a great job of showing how he uses a compressor and got me really interested in using one.

Re: EJ on a SG

That clip reminds me how much I like A2 PAF's in an SG, because after going through some hotter A5's in my SG, I think I'm restoring it to stock with the Burstbucker 1/2's. I think it sounded best before I started changing things.

+1. BB's should be much more common, especially in Gibsons.

Re: EJ on a SG

All I know is, when I eventually do get my real-deal Les Paul, I'm putting a set of Pearly Gates in there first.
