The first time I ever tried them ways along time ago and when i tried them I thought nothing special. yesterday I tried it out on a guitar equiped with them and I loved it. It was so quiet and still had a badass quality. The onlything is I don't see em on MF or Sam Ash website and I don't think my local shop deals EMGs. Can someone tell me where I can get one for bridge and how much one would run me?

Re: Emg Active pups

Ebay, buddy. If you get a used one, they go a good bit cheaper there.

Also, post an ad in the Trading Post. I bet there's somebody here trying to unload one :)

BTW, I recommend the 85, but if you can grab an 81 cheap, go for it!

Any idea on price range they run for?

Re: Emg Active pups

There's a used 85 that looks to be in decent shape with a Buy It Now for $69.99, and I saw a brand new in the box one for like $80, so don't pay more than that.

There's a white 81/85 set with no bids sitting at $95... killer deal :D

Re: Emg Active pups

I played an LTD with an 81/85 combo the other day, and surprisingly I liked it. Definitely a different sound from passives, but pretty fun to play with. Very bright and solid. Heavy riff sounds great. Don't know if it's a sounds I'd always want, but they're definitely cool to mess around with.

Re: Emg Active pups

I noticed that you're only looking for a bridge pickup. Assuming your guitar has more than one pickup, you'll probably want to get a set since actives and passives aren't supposed to mix very well.

Re: Emg Active pups

i'd actually prefer the 89 over the 85. They sound practically the same to my ears but the 89 is spliatable and gives you a wider range of sounds if you only have one pup on your guitar.

The EMG website has online dealers. New pups are about $100 most places.
I saw on ebay brandnew in box for 87 buy it now and he had like 5 in stock I think ill just buy it there.

Re: Emg Active pups

www.gtrheaven.com is the best online retailer for pickups I've seen and they're really close to me in nashville so I get the package next day whooooooooh! And they sell all EMG even the parts.

Agree!! Splitted to singlecoil the cleans are pretty nice...

I saw that they have avtice P-90 type pups, that looks interesting.

They're standard humbuckers (81/85/60) put into P-90 bodies.....

....kinda defeats the purpose of having a P-90 if you ask me....

Even $87 sounds too high to me. That sounds like a price Guitar Center would throw out at the average customer.
