I'm pretty sure that's BS, at least for the old pickups (which these are) without the quickconnect. Think of the EMG pickups like Kit-Kat bars, almost exactly like that. You have the black on top/around and the light brown wafer underneath. The black cover on the EMGs encase another brown enclosed housing underneath. All you gotta do is sand/grind/cut the black off. You just gotta be careful and not let it get too hot or it *will* damage the pickup and start to burn :(

i've always enjoyed my 81b/85n set. Great crunchy ballsy rythem and cool bluesy lead when switched to the neck. I might get yelled at for this one but i enjoy that in my les paul more than the jb/59 set in my dean even though that is a great guitar as well

I dont like this one --> "EMG81 is the best humbucker ever made"

BTW, I've used the EMG DG-20 set in one of my Strats.

Yuck!

Guess I'm not "appreciating".. right ?

the 81 was very dissapointing for me and so was the 85. as far as it being the best ever made i am glad he feels that way about his 81.
I will not say they are not good but definitely not my cup of tea. i got curious and the EMG set was on sale at guitar center so i tried them to finnaly hear them up live and was very uninspired about the results. my band memebers yelled at me to "PUT THE ****ing duncans back in your guitar!!
duncans remain best there is for all styles!
even NON guitarist like my drummer and singer like the way they sound :laugh2:

I like the pair of 60's in my Hamer. They work really well with effects processors and super saturated settings, though, when I plug straight into the Bassman and go, I do it with my LP loaded with a Pearly Gates set.

Re: EMG Appreciation thread, EMGers make your presence be known.

while i like very much my emgs i cannot see the reason for an "appreciation" thread for any kind of pickup, amp, guitar, car, shoe, or whatever manufacturer.............. :) :) :)
If you buy them i think it means you appreciate them.................... :alcoholic
