EMG covers

The EMG website says their pickups are only available in black... is this set in stone? Are there any custom orders, or other companies that make covers? I'd really dig some in creme.

There is a guy on youtube that swapped his stock covers for gold covers, making it look like a standard humbucker. I'm not sure if I want to dive in to that though.

Re: EMG covers

Musicians Friend had some models with multiple colors in a catalog recently. I saw that black, creme and white were available. I guess if you wanted something more custom, you could just paint them yourself too, as the outside of the pickup is sealed.

MF has then in black, white, creme. New for 2009 they also have them in chrome and gold covers too.

Re: EMG covers

Oh yeah, I also saw an ad for a set that were camo colored. I don't know what you'd put them in but they make em.

Re: EMG covers

Looks like they carry the 60, but not the 60a? I may contact them about that, or see if any other companies stock the 60a in creme - actually the soapbar sized 60a in creme.

Anyways, thanks for pointing that out. Now an EMG-equipped axe can keep a more vintage look instead of just black and metawlz.

Re: EMG covers

I once owned EMG's and sprayed painted them to match the guitar. I used this black stone slab paint stuff right on the pickup. Came out really cool looking actually. I would try painting them yourself if you really want a custom color. It doesn't affect tone at all.

Re: EMG covers

I have always had a love/hate relationship with EMGs. I really like them as I really can't find a pickup I like better for most things (I actually REALLY like the clean tone they make LOL!) but they don't quite fit what is in my head, and I can't help but think they take over too much of the guitar... I still like them better than blackouts though, while sterile to others means more clear to me.

Re: EMG covers

EMG just released Chrome and Gold covered pickups, and Blackouts have been shipping in Nickel, Gold, and Black Chrome for a few months. I believe EMG has something they call Ivory that is not a match to traditional cream. Then there's the camos.

Re: EMG covers

EMG's come in black, white, ivory, and now chrome and gold.
