What's the deal with emg's? What makes them so great I wouldn't put them into my strat, or would I?.Well can someone please tell me what would be the advantege over passive pickups? I have played the jerry donahue (misspelled) but its o tay!! but it felt weird. What makes them so great? Should i install them into my strat?or just use 57/62's from fender?
p.s. no Jb's thanks.

Re: Emg?????

I believe he wants to know what the deal with EMGs is.

But you'll have to clarify "Deal" if you want us to offer you an accurate answer ;).

But for now:

EMG's are pretty quiet, thats one advantage they have over passives.

Also...they have a bit more of a hi-fi sound to em...Some players like this, others don't. I'm somewhat in between. I'd like to try out a set of 85's some day...haven't been all too much of a fan of the 81...just doesnt suit me.

They're no better or worse than duncans or dimarzios, they're quality pickups the just fit a different niche.

Quiet and high output.
For metal, get the 81/85 set, for spanky blues and classic rock, get the David Gilmour signature set.

Re: Emg?????

another emg thread huh,

here i am waiting to see how many posts it takes before someon says the "S" word :]

Re: Emg?????

emgs are extremely clean and smooth. this helps them withstand globs of distortion without getting muddy. my main problem with them is that they lack the overall character that most passives have. try the search option for other opinions of emgs.
