Emi Texas Heat review

Re: Emi Texas Heat review

It's been 2 months and so time for an update. After trying this thing at higher volumes, I'd say I rather like this speaker, but would be interested in trying others. The bass is pretty round, and the low mids get thicker when the speaker gets to higher volumes. very "big", and maybe a little dark. I might like to try something just a little tighter, as the Tweaker naturally has a kinda spongey bass (being 15W of vintage-voiced 6V6).

Re: Emi Texas Heat review

Thanks for the review. I've been looking out for one to try out. There seem to be plenty of used 16 ohms around but not so many 8s (which is what I need)

Re: Emi Texas Heat review

have you found these amps to be a little bright as well? I don't run my treb much past 2'oclock and pres back down around 10 o'clock. I've done this with both my VK100 and JCA100H. other then that I really like these speakers. if it goes much past that there seems to be a unpleasant high end noise.

I tend to like a natural (or "flat') sounding speakers nowadays and TH doesn't sound very flat to me. I feel that bass is a tad bit excessive, which may be good thing for some applications like drop tuning. Treble isn't compromised though.

I have been using Emi delta 12A, and personally I like it better than EV12 classic, which sound too me a tad bit bright.

That's almost exactly what I do with those two knobs on my JCA20H. I'm running through a Wizard and a Governor, though.

Re: Emi Texas Heat review

how is the bass on those wiz's? I'm looking to possibly pair mine up with something else. not sure yet.

I think the Wizard is like a boost for your speaker. When you take a good boost, it takes your amp and makes it sound like more of everything, right? I feel like the Wizard did the same thing. It took the sound of the Governor and just filled it out.

I like a big, upper-middy crunch tone, and I dial that in with a good dose of mids and treble at about 1:30. I leave the bass at about 10:00 or so. And it's still got plenty of chunk. With a pair of Governors, it was quite a bit thinner.

When I get the bass rocking, though, you need earplugs or you'll have a headache. It's big and non-directional and all-encompassing. It doesn't have that much tightness to it, but I think that's a function of the head, not the speakers. It's massive, though.

Re: Emi Texas Heat review

yeah the JCA100 has a ton of bass that hits like a brick wall at 3.5... not at 3, but 3.5. it becomes another amp that is very thick. I can feel where the head has a loose low end but the Heats do much to tighten it up. I feel like i've got a massive low end now but feel like i can get more crunch out of the mids though so i'm looking to mix something in.
