How do you guys feel about this speaker?
Bruce put a new baffle and a Texas Heat in one of my Princeton Reverb amps. My other Princeton has a Weber 10 based on the mid 60's Jensen C12N. The Weber 10 is louder and has fuller bass than the Eminence 12...but the Weber breaks up faster, isn't as bright and isn't as clear.
We're trying to find the ideal speaker for my heavily modded Princeton Reverb amps.
I really like both the Weber 10 and the Texas Heat 12. But I would kinda like to hear a fuller, deeper tone out of the Texas Heat. I'm really surprised that the Weber 10 has so much bass and a fuller tone.
All in all, I prefer the Texas Heat - it seems to have more of the kind of tone I gravitate towards and it's a high quality clear tone...but for a 12 it doesn't have as much bass as I would have expected.
Some reviews claim it has a bit of a flat dull tone...I sure don't hear that! It's bright.
And some reviews say it sounds more like ZZ Top than SRV...I don't hear that either. Sometimes it seems like guys listen with something other than their ears! Call something a "Texas this" or "Texas that" and just the power of suggestion makes some guys feel like the speaker has some kind of Texas Blues tone.
(Kinda like the "Texas Sizzle" I've never heard the Duncan Pearly Gates as having...as if it's some kind of burger or ribs sizzling away on the grill instead of being a guitar pickup!)
Anyways: what has been your experience with the Emi Texas Heat? I like it - even if it doesn't sound like "Texas Heat" or particularly bluesy.
To me, it just sounds like some kind of really good Blackface Fender era 12...
