Ok finally got to try the 57 neck and 490t. While this a lot closer to what I am looking for still not quite there. I found the 57 in the neck to be ok. There was a definite lack of pick attack and has a kind of boxy low end so not great but livable. The 490t was actually pretty sweet. Had plenty of power and bite but not harsh and had a nice thick tone. These pups did not work well for me in The middle position. Too much low end, not enough pick attack, and lacking any resemblance to that classic mid position sound.
So out come the gibs and in goes the Slash set. I didn't get to really give them a good going over since my lil one is asleep.
