Epic Flexible Pedal Rigs

Dude, there is no shortage of spring reverb simulation pedals that blow away the spring model on the HOF. The Topanga and the FRV-1 are just two.

Yes, but how is the Plate, Room, Hall, Cathedral, Gated, Reverse, and Shimmer on the FRV-1 and Topanga?

i totally get your point, but have like no interest in most stuff like that. i like a fuzzface, so i found the best one for me. i like analog delay so i have a few that sound awesome. i like trem, so i have a few that sound awesome... i dont need/want multi trick pedals. i want a box that does what i want as good as i can find without spending klon money.

The problem with pedals with multiple modes is how do you use that on stage? Bend over between songs and adjust it? Or buy more than one?

I set all my pedals for one sound and leave them set on that. Except delay time.

Depending on what you're running into, this can be pretty flexible. And I can add a Weeping Demon wah if I need more room.

The benefit of modes and options is I can always find at least one very useful sound and use it. Back in the day, either the pedal worked great as is, or it was up for sale 3 minutes 50 seconds after it was bought.

You can try all the delays until you decide you only like Analog, or Tape, or digital and then get a Carbon Copy, a DD3T, or an El Capistan.....

And keep it and have two! One Uber Analog and one whatever you want / need.

i frequently run two delays if im doing a trio. an analog set to just fatten things up a bit that stays on much of the time, not slapback but not long and maybe two repeats. then another with tap tempo so i can get the slapback or a longer delay or whatever i think will be fun

When did you join the U2 Tribute band?

This is kinda where I'm at too. I'd rather have a couple of sounds that always put a smile on my face than a thousand sounds where there might be something great in there but it'll take me weeks to find 'em.

My DC-2w has 22 distinct tones! But with that many settings sometimes I find myself using it as more of a set-and-forget chorus, lest I end up in a rabbit hole fiddling with the settings.

In my opinion the most versatile effect can sound good in any possible setting. That's why the gain/tone/volume combination is so effective. If you have 5 knobs and a 3 switches but you have to look for a good sound, that's missing the point.
