Epiphone Casino vs. Shraton II

Gentlemen, an Epiphone question for you :


What will the tonal diff's be, if BOTH guitars was fitted with P90's ?

The Casino comes stock with P90's, but how would the Sheriton II sound with the exact same P90's ?

The Casino is a full hollow thin line, and the Sheraton II a semi hollow.
How does that affect the tone ? If both have P90, remember !

Lets say both get's played through a semi dirty Fender Deluxe Reverb


And just for curiosity's sake, both is $699.00, wich one would you take in their stock form, and why !

The Sheraton will tend to be brighter, tighter, and punchier, not only because of the sustain block, but because of the maple neck and top.

BTW, I have Phat Cats in my Sheraton and it;s very twangy and sparkly. It backs up my thinline tele at country gigs.

WOW . . .

. . . i thought the P90's in the Casino would have made this model brighter sounding, because of the Alnico 5 mags in a S/C'er !

I have a Sheraton & a Casino. I like both a lot, but find 335's more versatile because of the center block adding sustain & reducing feedback. I think a Sheraton would be a little warmer with P-90's, as they're anchored into a big block of wood. The tone & weight of Sheratons vary, and even with a maple body, the body design seems to add warmth.

Funny you brought this up. I just emailed Epiphone/Gibson customer service today, suggesting that they make a Dot 335 with P-90's. Everybody's making them with HB's. They need to make a model that stands out from the crowd. How some of you guys emailing a manufacturer and see if we can't get somebody to make an import P-90 335?

It is funny tat they have not thought od such a guitar themselves, seeing that they already have a Gibson version like that out :

If i had the money i would have gotten one of these on the used market - well as soon as they got onto the used market !

My vote goes to the Sheraton, although I must admit I have not played a Casino.

But I would still choose the Sheraton becuz it is already routed for humbuckers. IMO, this will give you more options in case you decide later to depart from the p90's. There are more humbucker options and wiring configurations available. Tone wise, I think the sheraton is more capable of achieving more tones, from heavy to blues to jazz. I also dig the looks of the Sheraton II. Its a very elegant looking guitar IMO.

Wow. This is a 335, center block, right? Very nice. Didn't know it existed. More coincidences! 50 years of 335's, all kinds of variations, and this is the first one I've seen with P-90's. No one could have thought of this sooner? I love my Casino, but the feedback issue limits the the venues I use it at. Us 335 fans need a P-90 version we can take anywhere.

Hey, some import manufacturer has got to start making these at a price the average guy can afford. Lets start an email campaign!

ive played a few casinos and they were all cool axes, the sheratons were more hit and miss. a good one with p90s would be really sweet

+1. It's a part of the market that's been neglected too long. I picked up one the new Riviera P-93's (triple dog ear P-90's, Bigsby, gold wardware, in wine red), and I love it. I started thinking "why on earth isn't anyone making a 335 with twin P-90's, an import so the average guy can afford it?" They all have HB's, and that's been done hundreds of times in the last 50 years. P-90's would get some excitement going for 335 fans and single-coil lovers. Makes a lot of sense to a manufacturer, no big retooling involved, easy mod to make. Instead of giving us all these "new" models that are usually just the same thing in a different color, why not go all the way and actually change the tones?

Write your congressman! Write Epiphone! We need a grassroots movement. P-90's on 335's, SG's, LP's, you name it. Give us more choices! Give us P-90's! Forum members, can I count on your support?

Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised to see so many P-90 models. Lot more than most dealers. Gotta love a LP with P-90's. Have you, or anyone here, bought any guitars from them? What's the quality & workmanship like? Made in China?

Chinese manufacture. A friend of mine bought one of their PRS copies. Nicely put together, decent frets (Epi quality at least) and nice finish. The one I played was easilyt on par with Epi's and sounded greaat with the Jazz set that I put in it for my friend.

One thing though, I did have to ream the holes for the pots when installing CTS units.

Easily worth the $190.00 he paid for it (shipped).
