Epiphone Casino vs. Shraton II

Re: Epiphone Casino vs. Shraton II

Wow. This is a 335, center block, right? Very nice. Didn't know it existed. More coincidences! 50 years of 335's, all kinds of variations, and this is the first one I've seen with P-90's. No one could have thought of this sooner? I love my Casino, but the feedback issue limits the the venues I use it at. Us 335 fans need a P-90 version we can take anywhere.

Hey, some import manufacturer has got to start making these at a price the average guy can afford. Lets start an email campaign!

YUP, semi 335.
It is on MF price list !
That is where i saw it the first time !

Re: Epiphone Casino vs. Shraton II

I thought about getting a Dean Palomino (a friend of mine at Dean is the guy who spec'd it out, took a lot of arm-twisting on his part). But I ended up with an Epi Riviera P-93, which is a 335 with triple dog ear P-90's (black metal covers), Bigsby, gold hardware, in wine red. Doesn't have the feedback issues of a full hollowbody, being a thinline it's more comfortable, and has 4 knobs so you get more PU options. Better fit for me. It's similar to that Eastwood 335 you put a pic up for.

Maybe we're seeing a resurgence of the P-90?

The Agile Fake LP I had was made in Korea. Reminded me a lot of a good Epiphone (BETTER built than my Sheraton, fwiw): solid build quality with kinda meh electronics. I swapped out the pickups and loved it. It's the instrument I most regret selling, but those were harder times...

Chinese manufacture.

I'll admit that I'm biased in favor of humbuckers. I just got a dot. Rather than switching to P90s the way I would go is to do coil splitting on one or both HBs with push/pull pots. You get a lot more versitile instrument that way.

Sheraton II

However - My actual vote would be for a ES-339 with P-90's.

Now, if the pickup selector switch on these models could be placed where Les Paul switches are located - It would be heaven. (Take a look a the Joe Pass model for an idea)
