Epiphone classic T

So, I scored this guy today. Finally. Took over a week due to bad weather.

Anyway, its got these ceramic pro pups in it. Not entirely sure I like them yet but there's zero info in the interwebz regarding them.

I ordered CTS 500k pits for it and some orange drop caps from mojotone. Was hoping they would be tappable and May be able to deal with series parallel or maybe in/out of phase wiring. But apparently not..

Welcome to the forum

Looks kind of strange for wiring. Looks like the pickups are 2-conductor and for some reason they used a snap connector but only between the switch and the jack, which I don't see any benefit in doing.

If you feel brave swap the ceramic magnets for ALNICO 2 and they will sound decent.
Then while the tape is off either solder a single wire to the to soldered together series link sires between the coils so you can do a coil split, or if you feel braver still get done 2 core wire and separate those 2 series link wires and solder each of the 2 core wires to one of the series link wires so you can do series parallel switching. The former is easier and sounds better though.

Call me a cap sniffer, I don't like orange drops. I used to,until I tried Russian PIO. There's no going back, the creamiest woman tone on 0.015 uF caps when the tone is rolled all the way back ..,,

If your take a DC reading of the p'ups, we could take an educated guess about an arguably "better" choice for a magnet swap.

Pretty hot if you ask me.

I called Gibson yesterday. I was told wiring schematics were "proprietary".. Not sure if dude just didn't want to help or...

The exact same specs as the Mayhem set, aka Duncan Distortion.

It you like the way this set hits the first gain stage of your preamp, I'd go for an A4n/A8b mag set.

It it's clarity and vintage vibe, then the A3n/A2b mag set will get you there.

In that case ALNICO 2 won't be so suitable. I like vintage tones with lower output. but have ALNICO 5 in one guitar with similar outputs, and it's ok but not brilliant. but I am certain Lt Kojak's advice is the best you'll get.

With that high of output, no mag swap is going to give you vintage tone (sorry Pepe).

However, if you wire the pups parallel you can come close (of course you'll have to take off the tape and splice on a couple wires as has been suggested earlier).

Or you could do the splice in the pup. This would leave the pup "permanently" in parallel, however. My opt would be to make it a four conductor pup.
