Epiphone LP Traditional

What's up with these $319 Les Paul Traditionals? I haven't paid attention to much of any new guitar prices in awhile, particularly Epiphone. It seems like Epiphone Les Pauls used to be typically priced similarly to a "similar" Mexican Fender (similar meaning LP Standard vs Standard Strat).

Re: Epiphone LP Traditional

I'm seeing new Traditionals on sale at Guitar Center for 399 for some finishes, and the other finishes are 499.

Re: Epiphone LP Traditional

Cheaper labor. That's why. They use the same woods.

Gibsons are over priced for what you get. As a luthier/repairperson, I've worked on a lot of recent Gibsons and Epiphones, and the Epis are generally better quality guitars. At the very least they are the same build wise, except for sometimes cheaper hardware and pickups.

I would never buy a new Gibson. I've worked on them, and they really cut corners on things like fret ends, sanding and scraping the binding and fretboard. You can find cutter marks left from when the fretboard was machined!

If you want a Stupid Deal, grab one of the '15 Specials or Juniors from SamAsh while they are blowing them out.
