ESP vs. Schecter?

Well, I'm coming into some more money soon and I'm hoping to get another guitar since my Parker's become problematic and I only play my Strat when I'm home. I've narrowed it down to 2 guitars:

ESP EC-400 ATS

and

Schecter C-1 Elite

I've gotten a chance to play the Schecter and was very impressed by everything but the pickups (which are sure to change). Otherwise, it has a Strat-shape that I'm familiar with, a smooth neck heel, and the contour fits me just right. It also comes very well-dressed with Grovers and abalone.

The ESP on the other hand comes with real Duncans installed (JB and '59). It also has that new Earvana nut. However, I've never played one and I've never been that fond of single cutaway guitars (except for the Tele). It's also about $100 cheaper (in some places) than the Schecter.

Any opinions? suggestions? death threats?

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

That's a tough one, I've owned a C-1 plus and I own an ESP EC-1000. They are really both great guitars. I'd go with the ESP personally, but pick whichever feels and sounds better to you, you can't go wrong with either.

pssst, get the EC-400ATS in that nice gold color, yummy

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

As a proud owner of a Schecter 006 Artist model... go for the Schecter.

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

Schecters are awesome guitars, especially for the money. Even after swapping pickups, you're still into a very high-quality axe for much less than you should normally pay. I have a C1+, and it's sweet.

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

It is my understanding that both these brands are made in the same factory... only the specs change... Go for the one that suits you best...

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

I prefer the Schecters. Got a C1-classic (JB/59) before they redesigned the model. They just have some nice guitars for the price. I got a good deal on my through MF. They had free shipping at the time and you don't pay sales tax so it worked out in my favor.

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

I have played both, and I liked the schecter more, even without the real duncans. The schecter doesn't need a pickup swap, although I was playing through a Mesa Triaxis. If there was a EC400 in white, I think I would get use to it though.

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

Schecter. Every ESP I've played has been great, but Schecter is just..oh man. Orgasmic.

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

I would definitely the Schecter, especially the C-1 Elite. Mmmm...I love it in transamber with those abalone inlays all the way around...

On the other hand, you can get an ESP EC-1000 (or M/H/MH-1000) which also has the inlays, PLUS the good pickups.

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

I own both so it is tough. I go back and fourth.........both totally different feels and equal to me..

What's becoming problematic on your Parker?

Mostly, I've become spoiled by my SG. My Parker doesn't sound as good, its sustain isn't as good, its neck contour fits me better, and the jack isn't working. I brought it into the shop last week to get it fixed and it responded by ripping out the top half of the jack to my instrument cable. Good thing it's got a lifetime warranty!

Re: ESP vs. Schecter?

If I'm not mistaken, Ibanez has taken some of it's design cues of the SZ series from Schecter. You can see and feel the similarities between a Schecter C1 and my Ibanez SZ520. Based on that, I really like the feel of the SZ/C1, but I've also played the EC-400. I posted a review a while back, take a look, but the gist was that I was pretty pleased by the playability and the sound. Try to find an EC-400 to play, you will be very satisfied.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the the SZ's. The headstock it almost the same but the string ferrules are arranged differently as I recall.
