Esquire wiring

Is there any reason why I couldn't use the 3 way esquire wiring with a 2 wire humbucker in the bridge ? I would like to use a 2 wire humbucker in a Esquire build but use the cocked wah or esquire 3 way switch wiring... Thanx for the help...

Re: Esquire wiring

Er, what precisely do you mean by two wire humbucker?
a) Single conductor + shield?
b) Two conductor + shield?

If the case of two con + shield, the wires of your HB could be hot and coiltap or either end of the HB as a whole. This will determine what trick wiring you can perform.

If your HB turns out to have a coiltap, it would be possible to immitate the Seymour Duncan personal Esquire wiring schematic BUT the sonic variations will not be quite the same. Your version would bring a large change in volume and RF hum.

Re: Esquire wiring

you could do the esquire wiring two just a hot wire and ground wire yes. should work fine.

i would do
1-fixed treble roll off (the cocked wah sound)
2-tone contol
3-no tone control

You had been totally ignored FunkFingers :D Not cool, not cool at all.

Re: Esquire wiring

If I have offended anyone because of my lack of knowledge or technical savvy, please let me be the first to excuse my inept ability to explain my self. It is just a shield and a hot wire, I am finishing up a esquire with this pickup and would like to utilize the 3 way switch. Thank you............

Re: Esquire wiring

no not at all, no worries. i dont have a diagram and i dont think duncan has one like that.

basically youd attach the hot wire to the common tab on one side of the switch.
a treble roll off cap to one tab. i like to use a .01 or .015 value anything more is too much for my tastes
the wire to the tone control to the middle tab
and nothing to the other

this diagram shows how to wire the volume and tone contols:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=1hum_1vol_1tone

run a wire from the common tab on the switch where you soldered the hot wire from your pup to the place where the black wire from the pup in the diagram. the shield should be grounded to the volume pot casing like the bare and green wires in the diagram.
