Fane speakers

I don't hear these mentioned around here a lot. How are they? What models are the best and what ones should be avoided? I'm wondering as the Hiwatt Maxwatt M412 has fane speakers (don't know model).

Re: Fane speakers

I've played on an older hiwatt and cab that has 4 25watt fanes, and they sound incredible. I've since looked, and can't find new 25 watt fanes anymore- i don't think they make 'em anymore. I don't know much about them other then they sound great. I'm sure the ported cab helps as well. The speakers seem a bit more expensive then celestions.

Re: Fane speakers

They sell the Fane AXA.12 which is 100 watt alnico speaker. It is on their site and you can buy it at loudspeakersplus.com. They had them in a local shop in a cab for a plexi type amp and it sounded amazing. The best part is the bass response and the extra agression.

Re: Fane speakers

They are either the Fane classic reissues that are used in all the new HIWATT cabs or the AXA 12s.

The Fane reissues are nice and similar to the FAnes of the 70's but a little darker. Still a great full range speaker.

Re: Fane speakers

I want a Hiwatt stack with Fanes for sure oneday.... Mostly because of my love for The Who.... but i have been hearing reports that Pete's Hiwatt cabs later in the 70's had JBL's in them and not the Fanes. There is an interview from UK TV in 1979 that has one of Pete's stage hands explaining the Bands set up and he says the Hiwatts have JBL's in them. Which JBL's i have no idea. But i'm pretty sure the Leeds era tone most fans love has the Fanes...
