Re: Fantasy Guitars

I don't know why they cost so much...

It's just an SG Classic but I really think it's a great guitar for me...

Re: Fantasy Guitars

Funny thing is we don't need all that bling to make it feel or sound great.
BUT, when it comes down to it almost all of us would be guilty of wanting a highly figured top or some pretty elaborate binding and/or inlays or whatever and then cry murder when all THOSE things raise said instruments' price by at least three or four hundreds (and I'm being overly generous here!)

Same with women, we SAY we want a good woman by our side that understands us and is good with us but when it comes down to it looking like "insert voluptuous woman of preference here" wouldn't hurt (even if we don't look like "insert male sex symbol here").

Re: Fantasy Guitars

The unobtainability and/or exclusivity is part of the appeal. If these things were easy to come by, we would not prize them so highly.

Example.
Guitarist A: "Oops, I broke a string on my Relic Superdupercaster."
Guitarist B: "Oh, throw it on the heap. Have a new one."

Re: Fantasy Guitars

By the time people can afford those fantasy guitars, they are as much of a fantasy....and you find yourself buying guitars that sound and play the way you want regardless of price (though decent guitars are usually not entry level).

Re: Fantasy Guitars

they're all get-able

just get 'em if you want 'em

Good advice. Most are out of the average guy's income range, unless he's willing to live in a bad part of town or drive an old unreliable beater of a car just to get some high-end guitars. You can only lower your standard-of-living just so much to get your fantasy guitars, before you ruin your home life and marriage. But according to some guys here, it's worth it.

define "average guy."

Re: Fantasy Guitars

Because the primary component in most dream guitars is labor. At least my dream guitars. Someday I want a guitar that's done right in every little facet. You know, the way the fret ends glimmer like jewels, the binding is mitered perfectly, the finish is flawless, the neck shape melts into your hand, the control knobs are on perfectly straight, etc. ad nauseam. Unfortunately that's the highly skilled and time-consuming part. I think it's worth every penny and would have no problem paying for it if I had the pennies.

Don't fret it. I wished I would have never bought my Classic. It was cheap enough, but they aren't bringing anything in the used market- you can get one for six hundred, alot less than I paid. They are toy guitars. The body is so thin and light that they have that acoustic hollow sound that isn't really great tone that people who don't know anything about good tone mistake for great sound like over on the Telecaster forum people raving about their cheap Chinese Pine Teles casue of that hollow semi acoustical sound that isnt at all full or complex and frankly is pretty bland, but it is spanky and hollow so people go nuts. But you can say that to a lot of those fools there or youll be banned.

Truly, if you want a good 2xP90 Sg, that really is a fantasy guitar, with some weight and heft and substantial tone, you'll need to spend 3 grand..here..This is MY fantasy guitar;

I'll sell you my toy guitar,Im looking for a 9 pound 2x p90 sg; probably get a SX Callisto.

Re: Fantasy Guitars

Though to be fair, if it really is your dream guitar, the used market and resale value should be the lowest thing on your list of concerns.

Fair enough. Dreams are relative , although usually a fantasy guitar will bear out its worth in the marketplace, but as you kind of said, everyones dreams are different, and that SG classic used to be my dream, but it isn't anymore, so maybe it can be someone elses hopfully( and I can dump the turd).
