Fault in pickup?

Hey guys I need some insight, I've got a Seymour Duncan Invader Bridge that has a weird thing poking out of the back hole. I am wondering if it's defective or faulty or if this will affect the tone of the pickup if I install it. I've tested it with a multimeter and the readings seem fine. I wonder what it is? There is also some exposed wiring, it seems the tape isn't properly sealed, do you think that's okay? Also, the magnets on the invader don't seem very strong to me, my Seymour Duncan Distortion bridge seems to have stronger magnets, is that normal? It's just they are much bigger on the invader, I was expecting them to be stronger. This is my first post so I hope I've done the images correctly. Any help or insight is much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum

Looks like a bubble of wax to me. That's not a problem. Are you testing magnets with a guass meter? Otherwise, you don't really know what the magnet strength is or which is stronger.

I would just put the thing in and try it.

Welcome to the forum!

I can't really tell what is coming out of the hole in the pic, but if the pickup measures correctly...install it! You can always buy pickup tape if you are worried about the cloth tape coming off. I am sure that if the pickup measures right, then it should work just fine.

The Invader is an unusual design, with an extra component wired in between its two coils.
So if you see extra wire and/or a bulge under the tape, it's probably meant to be there.

OP, you worry too much...

The stuff coming out of the hole is wax. The coils are wax-potted at the factory to reduce noise and sometimes a little excess wax gets pushed out when the pole pieces are inserted or adjusted.

The wires you see on the side of the coils are very typical. That's where the "4-conductor" lead wires connect inside the pickup before exiting the baseplate.

Lastly, the Invader's bigger poles spread the magnetic field out more than the Distortion's smaller slugs and screws. Plus they are powder coated, so they might not "feel" as strong if you are touching something to them and pulling it off, but I can pretty much guarantee everything is fine with that pickup.

If it measures what it should on a multimeter and makes sound when you install it, then you're good to go.
