Celtic Franklin... definitely my favorite 1x12. Basically a matchless lightning.
+1 ... quite a happenin' little amp to be sure ... you almost didnt get it back :D

but i think it needs to be a bit louder (or mic'd) to be fully versatile for live action ... that new one on your bench in a 1x12" might be the "end all and be all"

hey joe, are you not down with a boogie mk iv 1x12" combo ?

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

Best combo for the sound i wan't would be the Engl Screamer. it just has typical Engl sound and is also versetaille. Perfect for me.

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

My Fender Blues jr. with JJ tubes and Celestion G12H30 speaker sounds good to me. I sometimes miss the Celestion Blue that was in it (still have it tho, all nicely packed up ;) ). It does sound great but in a band setting with another loud guitar, it sorta lacks in output. That's why I've got meself a Peavey classic 30. But still am using the blues jr. almost all the time. :smack:

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

Can't believe no one has mentioned a Budda SD 18 or 30. You can pick these up for around $1k. I think the VHT's would be a great choice as well. I really like my little PV classic 30 too. New speaker and different tubes and they sound great.

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

My fav is an ENGL Screamer 50- killer

I'd imagine the Diezel Einstein is pretty nice for a 1X12.

Also, the VHT Super 30 is great.

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

I don't think the Budda's come with verb. I'm pretty sure if you just keep your eyes open, you can find them for around that price. Or maybe a bit higher, but not much. I'm almost thinking of downsizing my 80 to a 30 or 18. That 80 is just a beast!

The new one through a 2x12 Bluesbreaker style big cab, using the Mojo G12H30's, is probably too loud for home use. Especially using all 4 power tubes. I'm going to try it with one speaker and the half power switch. I"m thinking it would make an excellent 1x12. The transformers are quite a bit heavier than the ones in the Franklin.

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

I'd be totally confident showing up for any gig with my Matchless SC-30 or Chieftan. Each has a single Vintage 30.

I'd feel pretty good showing up with my '66 Duluxe Reverb with a G12H30 too, if the gig was small enough.

Bruce's new 40 watt Aurora one x 12 with reverb will be a stunner!

I've played his 18 watt and 30 watt and could easily gig with the 30 watt with KT-66's. http://www.missionamps.com

Can't wait to hear it with bigger transformers and 40 or 50 watts output...that'll be the next incarnation of the Aurora.

Instead of having two channels, The Mission has a footswitch that boosts the gain internally in the amp itself, for soloing and it works beautifully! Much more natural and organic an overdrive than from a Tubescreamer or OD pedal.

I've got a Fender Blues Junior. It's a little boxy at first, but the speaker needs to break in. Plus, about $10 in new mods and a new set of tubes and you have a whole different amp. Everything just sounds fuller and better. 15w all tube. If you don't need reverb/EQ/master volume, there's also the Pro Junior. Don't expect much headroom out of it.

I second this vote. I've used the Blues Jr. as a main amp with my fulltone fulldrive 2 before and the idea of having a boost added to the pedal gives me almost three channels of sweet tone goodness. I highly recommend this setup. all told I've only got $400 in the setup ($250 for used Blues Jr. and $150 for the Fulldrive) and I don't think anyone can touch that setup for under $400 :)

The Mission Aurora looks pretty cool. What's the price range?

I'd get Bruce to contact you Joe.

He's real busy right now...just bought a new home and getting moved in.

The 30 watt version of the amp is very reasonable for a handbuilt amp...around $1500.

And I will second all this since I played the 18 watt and heard what the 30 watt can do. Awesome amps. I could easily see myself using one down the road. It's a definite option.

Check out the Studiotone and the Twintone. I haven't played them but anything from Koch sounds great, and they are a dutch boutique company that uses a lot of advanced engineering into their amps.

I thought you were going to get a Duende?

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

I have a Shiva 1 12. You know how I feel about the Bogners from previous discussions. It is a loud amp and at 80W it can be pretty awesome, but for some softer less volume type of stuff, I would go with my Deluxe Reverb. Its a real good amp, probably the best small club amp ever. Biggest problems with a Deluxe is the Flubby bottom and lack of headroom. Turn the volume down and both go away.

As far as pedals go....... I don;t use a lot. I use a chorus, Delay OD and Wah. I have always run these straight in. Haven't had the time to experiment wuth the loop in the Shiva yet, but I don't think I need to they sound fine straight in.

Re: Favorite 1-12 combo?

My Mesa F-50 is nothing short of amazing. I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about it, except maybe that it's heavy. :p

I own a Twintone II. I don't really see a need for anything bigger, and the sound is really good, on all channels and even on low volume.

How do you like it? It has 3 channels right? Lot's of features in those amps.
I've only played through it's bigger brother the Multitone head and I think that Koch is right up there along with the big guys.
