Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

I feel like I have answered this question a thousand times on this forum. My Fender Excelsior has one of the most natural break ups I have ever heard in an amp. It is a 13 watt tube amp with a 15 inch speaker.

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

I use to have an old Peavey Classic 20 that had a great warm overdriven tone.

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

The Egnater Rebel 20, paired with the Egnater 1x12. I also love the Blues Jr. which covers that ground pretty well.

Do you have a budget? How many Watts do you need?

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

I'd shoot for something with 6v6 tubes. They get hot pretty quick.

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

Warm overdrive is kinda what the Bogner Shiva was all about. There are days I regret selling mine.

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Deville have what I would call a warm overdrive. Very bluesy but also good for most hard rock too.

I do have answers to both but I actually just wanted some general opinions for fun.

I will make a new thread with a more detailed direction. This one is more general

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

What are some favorite amps that have a nice warm drive for blues thru hard rock?

And what speakers are you pairing with them?

Warm OD tones in spades ?

My Orange Thunderverb 50 . . . the main reason i have that amp.

I use either my 2X12 0range cab, or my custom/home made 2X12 w. V30 + Swamp Thang.

Great amp - sweet, sweet natural amp dist, but is it a warm OD tone ?

What kind of volumes do you want this bluesy break up at? What kind of venues do you think you'll be using it in?
Whats your preference, open grainy fender style breakup or marshallesque crunch?

Agreed, It's one of the many reasons I'm lovin mine right now.

My Rocker 30 is quite amazing for this too, especially when the natural channel's driven to break-up (pretty much wide-open).

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

The Mesa Rocket 44 has a great warm od channel - sings for liquid leads or provides a nice grind for chord work - you can also kick in the Contour mode which boosts highs and lows and sucks the mids a bit to get into chunky Hard Rock territory ala Judas Priest.

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

The overdrive in my Genz Benz El Diablo 60 could be dialed in to sound quite warm. In the 30 watt mode, with the tube contour control turned down, and with the "compressed" and "High Gain" buttons off, the overdrive was dynamic, thick, and smooth sounding.
The amp is pretty versatile and in the 60 watt mode, with the tube contour knob turned up and the global attack knob on, it could sound edgier and more metal too.

Unfortunately I have the amp up for sale trying to raise money to make another gear purchase, and I may regret it if it sells.

Re: Favorite Amps That Have Warm Overdrive

Have you ever tried a Zinky? They're very warm. So much so in fact, that I understand one is being gainfully employed to defrost the Great Alabama Glacier of 2014...
