I've used and loved the George Lynch Screaming Demon model! It's to good to play rock'n'roll and some others styles...

excelent harmonics on solos

As far as the Customs, they should be treated as different pickups with slight tweaks in the wind to accomodate the magnet, etc. Gearjoneser mentions this a lot. The C-5 seems comparable to the JB in terms of output which will feel a little different based on pickup height. I have to say the C-5 would be one of my favorites if it had some thicker midrange. I just crave fat mids, even from the pickup. The one problem may be that puting more mids in the C-5 may end some of its versatility? Not sure.

If only the C-5 had more midrange! I wasn't into playing leads on it. :smack:

The JB is great, but I preferred the BBQ once I replaced my JBs. But, the JB had killer cut that is hard to beat! WCR is making an 'improved' JB according to many but it is $200!

Only speaking for my SGs: JB is fave Duncan. Rio BBQ is fave overall. The two best bridge pups in the business IMHO.

I hated that pickup in my ESP Lynch, too much top end(sure you get good harmonics) but not enough "meat"! The guitar sounds much better with a JB now (btw it's an alder body, not maple that I have). I think a JB is the best overall pu (I have 4 guitars with that pu). Gotta try a C5 though!!

I voted custom 5. I had a JB in my Dean hardtail which was good, but I put the custom 5 in it just to try something new. Big difference. The custom 5 has more bass and is much clearer for rhythm playing, while still singing for leads much like the jb.

Good choice! I also think the Rio Grande BBQ would kill in a hardtail.

Same thing I said for the favorite neck bucker thread:

My choice would very much depend on the guitar!

For vintage output pickups I like the Pearly Gates, Antiquity, Seth Lover and 59B. For hotter output pickups I like the JB and Custom Custom. And I would make my final choice only after some experimentation and trial and error.

Generally though, alnico 5 pickups sound particularly good in guitars like Gibson SG's...thin bodied guitars with long necks that lack deep bass and whose natural resonance accentuates the twangy mids and treble. Alnico 5 buckers tend to have more bass and are a real plus in guitars that lack bass.

Alnico 2 pickups seem to have more mids and a little less bass and often a little less treble. They're particualarly good when you want warm up a bright guitar...or add some mids to a guitar.

But it really depends on the resonance of the guitar and personal taste.

I'd have to second Lew's points. It depends on the guitar. In a strat I like a 59 or a Custom, but for my Les Paul I want something with an A2 magnet.

I chose the custom custom for its sweet smooth sound that works great for solos its also good for crunchy rythyms MMMMM Crunchy... :barf:
