Within the limitations of what I've experienced . . . the JB is the one!

Funny how things change. Thats not even close to what I'd pick now . . . Cool Rails, or C5 - depending on the guitar.

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

Of the ones listed it's the FUll Shred right now.

My absolute favourite is a tie between the Gibson Dirty Fingers and the DiMarzio MegaDrive and the Tele HotRails.

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

I personally feel the Invader would be my first choice in a non-mahogony guitar. It's got a nice loose feel (in a good way), keeps the sound together, and it can handle low tunings (even though I only tune down the 6th string). It's got a great, even tone, although it kind of lacks in the high-end. It doesn't muddy up, IF YOU BACK OFF THE GAIN A LITTLE BIT! Of course it's going to muddy up if you had the gain set to what you had it on what your stock pups needed, because the Invader's output is so much higher. I don't know how many times I've cringed whenever I read reviews saying that it muddied up on the highest gain setting.. no **** shirlock! With a 16.4 impedence reading, it'd be wise to not put the thing through a totally saturated amp.

On the other hand, it's also good for blues, if you back off the gain! If you let the pickup push the clean sound, it gives it a gritty drive, but not ugly.

So what I'm trying to say is, the Invader is good, just don't go crazy with the gain.

I hated that pickup in my ESP Lynch, too much top end(sure you get good harmonics) but not enough "meat"! The guitar sounds much better with a JB now (btw it's an alder body, not maple that I have). I think a JB is the best overall pu (I have 4 guitars with that pu). Gotta try a C5 though!!

Wanna know why it had all that top end? the ESP lynch guitars are all completely made of maple... The neck AND body... With any pickup it will really sound tiny and shrill!!

I don't know - I've played some Lynch guitars that were far from tiny and shrill. The Peavey Wolfgang Standard has a lot of maple and sounds fantastic with the right pickups. Even the stocks sound great.

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

i'm a huge fan of the Screaming Demon in basswood so now that takes the cake. full shred is also quite tasty.

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

Based on what I learned today comparing my two favorite Duncans (the 59B and Custom Custom) in basically two identical Strats, I've got to say my favorite overall is the 59B or 59 Trembucker.

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

I like the Trembucker Custom and the Invader.

They both add the balls some guitars have missing!

Can't say the same about the JB. Beautiful lead tone, very crunchy but thin sounding.

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

I think these polls are misleading :laugh2:
One day it's the 59. The next, everyone loves Custom, and so on. It's almost as inaccurate as your garden variety political polling. It's a joke. But seriously, Seymour needs to give all registered user's of this forum every current pickup to date that is in circulation. We will try each pickup out, fill out an evaluation form and in return for our services, we get to keep two pickups, one for the neck and one for the bridge. Kinda like a case study that all these pharmacutical companies conduct. Good Idea, Eh?

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

Invader all the way for me

Hah, funny coincidence - last night i had a nightmare about how they had changed the design of the Invader, and I was heartbroken

JB!

Though I prefer single-coil hummers.

It's a good job that this topic has come back from the dead, because now, I disagree with both the things I said three months ago. I do NOT prefer single coil 'buckers to full ones, and my favourite would probably be the Duncan Distortion. I guess I wish the JB had a bit more bass to it.

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

When this thread started (Last Year) My favorite was JB.

Now my favorite is without-a-doubt the Invader!

Rock On ~!~

Re: Favorite Bridge Pickup?

EMG 89 is my favorite bridge bucker...on your list though I'd have to say the distortion.
