Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

Diminished Triad

New member
I have quite a few Fenders, although those I consider way at the top include the David Gilmore Strat, the Richie Blackmore Strat, and a couple 1962 re-issue strats. The '62s are very comfortable. The Gilmore has great sound, and the Blackmore has some real kick and punch!

What's your preferred Fender?

Thanks!

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

My favorite Fender gets down to the serial number because IME playing any two Strats or Teles or anything of the exact same model and run still sound and play different from each other. I had to play 10-15 of each to get the Fenders I have.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

My favorite Fender model is the only Fenders I own, or will ever own: Jazz Bass. Fender knocked it out of the park with these. Great instrument.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

Oddly enough, I agree with blueman. The J-bass is perfect for what I want in a bass.

Obviously, not quite highly enough to spell the man's name correctly.

Whatever that players telecaster is with the wide range humbucker in the neck and the compound 7.25"-12" radius

My favorite is my 69 thinline reissue, that thing rings like a bell. Like anything else made from wood, the tonal quality will vary from one to the next, I have never felt comfortable buying them sight unseen.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

I pretty much like them all, but for comfort, the newest incarnation of Aerodyne is probably the best. Thin fret wire is awesome and proper, I don't understand the jumbo fret wire fascination. The arching isn't quite as dramatic as previous Aerodyne, and the radiussed top sort of makes the strings/bridge/pickups/neck seems to sit up higher off the body, which I always thought was one of the few strengths of the Les Paul design. It's a little easier to see what's going on when you glance down. And they're basswood, which is often associated with cheapness, but acoustically, it's a lot more consistent than alder, ash or mahogany, and permits you to go any direction you want to go in terms of pickup selection. The only drawback is, I believe the bind is fake, but overall the paint job is amazingly precise and tasteful, and hence it's hard to even determine if the binding is fake or real. I'm sure it contributes to the lower price point, which is another big plus. They also have painted head stocks, it's a very grade A looking guitar all around.

Does Squier count?

If so, the 70s style Tele they did with the DD P90-ish pups, hardtail bridge, and 22 FRETS. Good God, how hard is it to fit an extra fret on a Tele...

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

I only like one kind of Fender (owned) guitars.... But I also realize that I'm sort of that one weird kid on the forum too....

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

My favourite is the Dave Murray Strat ,shame it doesn't have a Floyd Rose ,I made my own replica using a Gotoh FR and it was wicked ,only used the black body and Maple neck all other hardware and electronics were replaced- how to turn a $400 Squier into an $1100 guitar ,

Yeah either that ^^ or a yjm for me. I had a usa yjm and it was great.
why did you sell it? I friend of mine has one, but i never find time to go there and play it.

Anyways if I ever had a real fender it would be this :

All in all, i believe that start-type vs LP-style has this advantage : with strats you can shred with low distortion and low output pickups and it still sounds great. With LP's not so much. Maybe it is in the geometry.

I was stupid thats why, haha. I used some of the money to buy my dt50 so it wasnt a total loss. The dt is more prestigious and rare,

My favorite Fender is my 2006 MIJ Strat with Antiquity Surfers and a Quarter Pound in the bridge. It literally can do anything I need it to, and the neck fits better than any guitar I've ever used.

You had a clip of you playing a Strat, I think it had Texas PU's; that sounded really nice.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

I'm a big fan of the '62 RI teles. Being a fan of pickups like Filtertrons, I really like the new import Coronados. I may end up getting one should I ever want to play out and don't want to bring the Black Falcon.
