Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

I have a white 69 custom shop reissue, which nobody loved on Ebay and found a home here. It is the only Strat I have, I think I got off-track when I settled for Ibanez Blazers long ago.

I wanted to Blackmore it with those big-magnet, awg42 pickups that Rio Grande offers but it ended up with 2 surfers and a Fender CS texas special in the bridge. It has a LCR control, though (via Bill Lawrence Q-filter).

I actually parted out my other strat which was a 1994 AVRI body, callaham trem with various 50s-style maple necks.

Oh, I would love to have a sunburst classic player '60. It is a beuty with features.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

Could be. Are you going to tell me how your delicate fingers require .20 - .50 Gage strings for proper control and feel on your basses? :P

My fingers aren't delicate with all the bending I do. Since bass strings are so big and rounded and I don't bend them, thick string gauges aren't an issue.

American Specials all the way love the Jumbo frets.
Locking Tuners Super Vee Blade Runner and a Duncan SSL 3 or SSL 5 good stuff.

Go out on a limb into crazy but my fav is my mid 80s HM Strat was fantastic from the factory but got turned into something completely different. Here is what it looked like originally

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

My favorite is one I don't own, but the first Blackmore signature with a set neck, Roland ready:

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

If I were to pick one, it would probably be the Jazzmaster. It's a comfortable guitar, I love the way it looks and it sounds killer.

Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

I own four Strats picking s favorite is like picking which of children is your favorite. I've owned some that I let go because they weren't for me. Two of mine are partscasters I built so I won't count them as "Fenders". Of the remaining two, my purple custom shop Robert Cray will get the nod as my favorite. I like the thick neck, vintage sounding pickups have a great tone, and being a hardtail it stays in tune no matter what. It is also a very early model, one of the first Cray Strats made. Notice the chrome hardware. Later ones have gold. Also it was signed and played by the great Ronnie Earl. That makes it one I will hold onto.

Left to right: Relic 50's partscaster, Cray Strat, Les Paul studio w/SD Pearly Gates, Clapton tribute Frsnken-Strat I built with a Clapton neck and killer D. Allen Tru62 pickups, and my first year SRV model.

I had owned a few strats when I was younger. I could never bond with them, being a Les Paul guy. Then I decided to try to buy the most comfortable best sounding strat I could find. After playing almost every model, I picked one up thinking it was a 57'AVRI. It blew away all others. However, it wasn't a 57', it was an Eric Johnson Strat. I usually avoid signature guitars, and I'm not a big EJ fan, but this strat is just ridiculously awesome, stratty greatness. I love Telecasters too, very versatile. I don't know why so few metal players play teles. They are shredding machines.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

Fender Pawn Shop '51. Or, if you don't care about the logo, the almost identical Squier '51. I had both and kept the Squier.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

My favorite, and being a guitar tech, I've pretty much played them all, is my 1991 Fender Prodigy with a Kahler term. Its just about everything I could ask for in a Fender.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

I had a '66 Coronado II that had some cool mojo. Also a custom shop show master with a cherry quilted carve top... But my favorite is a MIM tele... Black body with a maple neck. Swapped the white pickguard for a black one bought at a hole in the wall guitar store in Austin Texas that SRV used to to frequent.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

Jeff Beck Strat is my top favorite in the Fender line. It's just a well dialed in and playing instrument.
I really like the SRV Strat too.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitar(s)?

Well the only "real" Fender I've owned was a 72 Tele Deluxe re-issue. I'd wanted one since I was a kid, but could never afford one. I only sold it to pay my daughter's medical bills.

Right now my parts Tele is my ideal Fender-style instrument.

THat being said,I've owned more Strat copies than any other type of guitar, they just feel and play "right" to me. I just don't seem to like the stock sound of them (which is probably why 5431651 people sell replacement pickups for them, right?)
