Re: Favorite Gibson model?

I voted ES, as those are the only models I can foresee that I might be interested in getting in the future.

Flying V

Built in guitar stand, excellent upper fret access, my favorite control layout, love the balance, not too heavy, better headstock design than the LP, it's big so it looks right on a big person, looks cool.

336/356. I own 2 and soon to be 3 ha. They kinda do the les paul thing, but in a different flavor. More articulate and woody/airy. Not as focused as a LP. They are their own thing and I loved them for it. I'm also a sucker for double cutaways lol.

Honorable mention for old melody makers! Single and double cuts.

SG. It's a Les Paul with 0.00073 % less tonewood magic and 60 % less weight. My friend has one that weighs like 2.1 kg. We had the idea of cutting off a huge chunk of wood to make it even lighter, and also more ergonomic for his shoulder. It can even be made more cool looking this way.

ive had sg's that ive loved and a firebird that i loved over the years and never should have gotten rid of them. at this stage of life/playing its either a historic les paul or firebird V if im going to buy a gibson.

the firebird looks badass and sounds like no other gibson. most of my guitar heros played lp's so its an iconic image for me

I like them too, especially the '58 style, but it is a weird body shape to get used to after decades of 'normal' guitars with waists & rounded bottoms. They did look pretty good on Albert King.

ES-335 for me. Sounds great clean and at low volumes and gets the bluesy BB King sounds I love. Just the right amount of resonance.

I like Les Pauls and SG’s but nowhere near as much as an ES-335. Been playing one since about 1970...and an Epiphone Riviera before that.

I'm sometimes torn between LP's and 335's, the two pinnacles of Gibson guitar design. I used to think 335's were 'old man guitars', until I finally got one (to see what everyone was talking about). That changed everything. Fell in love with the rich tones, and the body shape is surprisingly comfortable.

Yup, plus they stay in tune good. I think the 50s korina Vs are the best sounding Gibsons I have heard too.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

Very interesting! I chose the Les Paul since that is the Gibson model that I most often play. But I do love my ES-335 and Lucille, they have their own tones and charm. I also have an RD, a Blueshawk and a Nighthawk.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

I also dig the ES Artist from the early 80s, with the Moog active electronics. Steve Howe used one in ASIA.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

What did he use everywhere else?

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

He used a variety of guitars...mostly ES-175, ES-5 Switchmaster, a '55 Tele with a neck humbucker, and an LP Jr.
