Also, if you want to go into which neck joint you prefer, have at it.
I prefer roasted maple. It doesn't need a finish and plays like a dream. Sounds like any other maple neck, too.
I'm spoiled, for sure. I like the ones I have so much I consider this wood or that wood then order roasted maple. :laugh2:Absolutely this. Feels and looks better than regular Maple (obviously just my opinion.)
I do like a Mahogany plus Ebony combo, but after owning multiple types of necks, I always go for the 1 Piece Roasted Quartersawn Maple (all I use now for electrics.)

Yeah, that's true.I'm in the same boat...consider others and then order Roasted Quartersawn Maple.![]()
That being said, an all-Rosewood neck is beyond fine!
There is one wood I've been wanting to try really badly, black acacia, also know as Tasmanian blackwood, getting it stateside although not in acoustics, but either blanks or dimensional lumber has been difficult, I'll have to get it off eBay I guess.
Sweet, sorry to hear what happened though. It's supposed to sound similar to both mahogany and Koa though.I started making a Tasmanian Blackwood explorer neck before the guy who claimed the build wanted reverse headstock & Maple, very light and chips real easy - must do something with it one day

Oh wait, you checked and it seems your from New Zealand, new question, is there a place that will sell to end consumers, rough or finished, that live over seas? I can't find a place on the USA, although Taylor guitars uses it.I started making a Tasmanian Blackwood explorer neck before the guy who claimed the build wanted reverse headstock & Maple, very light and chips real easy - must do something with it one day
