I'm not a "hater" per se. But if a guitar is ugly, it's ugly. I make high-end custom guitars and I'm very aware of what woods/colors look good together....that walnut colored body, tinted maple neck, and black headstock do NOT go together!

I actually DO see the good...I even commented that the headstock was ok. That guitar may even play and sound fantastic, but I don't know about that so I can't comment on that. I do see how ugly it is, so I can comment on that and I can give my opinion about what makes it ugly, which is what I did.

Time to take the rose-colored glasses off.

It would be pretty immature and ignorant to think that everything is good.

I’m not being serious about anything I’ve posted.

Personally I don’t think it’s a good looking guitar at all.

It was NEVER on my radar to hunt one down.

I only bought it because it was in mint condition and because it was offered locally for $1100.

I like to collect guitars and I really bought this as trade bait.

I’ll hold on to this until I run into something I really want, and can sell it to buy the new guitar.

I have several guitars in my collection that are just there for the same reason.

That said, my overall favorite is probably the Ibanez Iceman...seriously addicting!
 
I had a thing for the Ice man back in the day, had one like this. Had 2 at one point.

I love my Albert Lee HH except it's made for small hands, with a tiny narrow neck.
Looks and sound great though, and the wax & oil neck back feels wonderful in my hand..
Have considered selling it many times; always realized I just can't part with it.



Really like my Zerberus too, a Chimaira. Every time I bring it out somebody comes over to ask, "Hey, what is that?"



Also have two pretty cool retro-futuristic Backlunds, though they aren't in regular rotation nowadays.

Mine's not stock, not even close. Of course if it were today, I wouldn't mod it. But back in the day it was a working guitar.
The Shaw humbuckers were bright and articulate but totally unusable at stage volume - especially at 1980s levels.
I put in a set of 59s and was happy for years. These days it has a custom A3 neck from Rewind and a Brobucker at the bridge.
(Brobucker sounds great in korina, rich low-mids but not nasal in the upper mids. Really good vintage-hot bridge hum.)

Have swapped out some hardware over the years too. Bought a Faber bridge, tailpiece & studs for it.
Noticeably improved sustain, and IMO a slightly more open high end vs the stock Gibson parts.

Been meaning to reverse the volume controls - I'd much rather have the bridge volume first in line. Did that on my Explorers.
Again, if the Moderne were original I'd leave it. Since it isn't, convenience takes priority. It's not as if I'd ever sell it.
There are a handful of guitars from the old days that I'd never willingly part with. This is one of them.
