Favorite reverb pedals

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

^^^IIRC, The Hardwire's algorithms are derived from Lexicon.

More and more these days, a light plate simulation hits the spot. Almost dry. I like to call it 'perspiration'. :)

Yep and they are my choice. I own both the RV-7 and the Supernatural from Hardwire.
RV -7 is really nice for more traditional verb the Supernatural for the modulated stuff and deeper thicker verb.
On the cheap however don't ignore the Berringer Verb machine as they are surprisingly cool and have some good sounds for little $.

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

I use two amps, one with Reverb( a Bogner Shiva) & one without (a Komet 60). I use a Verbzilla with the Komet and its is as close to the Bogner as I think I have heard. The Shiva has the most remarkable reverb of all amps I have used(I also own a Fender Deluxe Reverb & a Super Reverb). The Verbzilla is not perfect but it sounds as close to a real tank as I think you can get.

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

My DAnelectro Spring Reverb (real spring tank in there) is quite awesome and was cheap too!

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

For simple basic verb, I don't think you beat this. Earthy, organic, gritty, real...(not to mention loved by serious verb connoisseurs like me & Tervorus). Pick a style, turn the knob. The tone is just fantastic period. And the Flerb is a cool little touch too for that little something extra. This box does not sound like a digital verb at all.

If you want the tone and a touch more control, they offer this.

However, this has a HUGE following. Can't argue. If it's lot's of verbs and adjustments you seek,,,,

Of late, these seem to be popular in the Swiss Army Reverb category.

I personally am attracted to this over the Zilla or HOF for no particulalr reason.

Or, for the minimalist, might I suggest this.

And, if we MUST go with tried and true Boss, while the RV-5 is nice, Isuggest this instead.

And, for the Kabala of all Reverb - apologies to the Fender Gods - this is WAY out of the ballpark. This is a whole other dimension of tube driven angelic heavenly awesome decay and throb.

Cheers for the detailed response. I really wana try a Holy Grail

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

i know the OP got his pedal, but I wanted to toss in that I have a HOly Grail Nano.. Those much diff than the reg Holy Grail? I thought they were same yet shrunken..?

I did but as most here, im a gear whore. I literally just got into reverb pedals. Up until recently i played amps thats already had reverb. Now none do in my current setup. Up until now(for the past 3 years) i was just using my delay and tweaking it to get a reverb sound sometimes. Which worked quite well. Now i want a reverb pedal haha

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

Me too! My amps had verb til I got my JCM800 and Splawn, so I had to get into verb pedals. I didnt have budget to try a bunch so after alot of advice, l gave the Holy Grail a shot. (Got the nano to save landscape) It may not be the best on the market, but it works well.

Is that the one that can make the Reverb Spring THWACK/SPROING if you hit it hard?

Those are cool! IIRC...

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

I want to try the hardwire supernatural, andy's demo was prettys shweet. Other than that, I'd just go to a canyon and play really loud.

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

You know, I remember when the reverb options were:

Original Fender
Whatever was in your amp
Ridiculous Lexicon/YAmaha units

All in all, revreb has really came a long way. Besides the ones mentioned here, there are a dozen decent cheapies (Like the Dano mentioned, the Fender model boxes, etc) and a bunch of other boo-teeky things. But really, no problems finding good verb any more, whether single flavor spring/hall units or Swiss Army Reverbs...

Good times!

I remember when the third option wasn't there. You did have echo in those days. I started playing 1975-ish.

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

I just got A Fender HRDlx, and it's reverb is funky and not great. It's very sproingy, in a bad way. I'll likely be changing out the tank for something smoother, with a longer tail. For now, I've got the Holy Grail, and now a Behringer Reverb Machine, and those both are excellent. The Behringer is great for the price especially.

The Valverb is awesome, but obviously not a pedal. I have one I got cheap many years ago, but it has the common volume drop when using the trem setting. There is a one-component replacement fix for that, I have the component (the LDR or whatever), but haven't done the mod yet. Nice reverb and deep tremelo (really vibrato), one rack space. Peavey used to sell a one space tweed cab for it, but I never got one, and they are hard to find now. Back to pedals, now!....

Re: Favorite reverb pedals

Slight hijack here but does anyone know, on a tank reverb, what determines the tail?

My Mesa 5:50 has a good reverb tone but it's loooong even with the reverb on 2 or 3. I prefer a shorter, tighter reverb decay. My old Princeton seems about right.

I'm not a big reverb guy anyway so it's not the end of the world.... it's more of an academic question.

If you take the tank out, it's probably an Accutronics. There are part numbers on there that will tell you it's characteristics, which can be found on their website. You can switch the tank out for a shorter tail, the tanks run under $40 usually.
