Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

I voted other and I had Gibson in mind because while most Gibson necks aren't exactly what most consider "fast" - I've seen too many examples of complete full on amazing shredding done on Gibsons (even les pauls with 50's profile) and if you consider an explorer - it has a very fast neck that seems like it was built for shredding. Or an SG with the 60's style slim neck? Look at zakk wylde, Jeff hanneman on the first 2 Slayer albums, or watch Al Pitrelli shred with the best on Megadeth's "Rude Awakening" live DVD.

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

With several shredders using Fender guitars, why isn't Fender up there in the list of guitar manufacturers?

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

Ok, I'm the resident B.C.Rich nutter here I think with 6 USA Basses and 2 guitars here (that don't belong to me) but I voted for Ibanez, as I've had a few in the past, and have a Jem right now, and they've always been consistantly great.

I was going to vote Shadow, but none of you would have heard of them, and I can't remember what case it is in LOL

G&L! G&L, has built several "Shred" guitars! Rampage, Superhawk, Invader, & Climax were all great guitars. They currently build an Invader model which is different from the 80's version.

Nice! I had Rampage #6 of 70. The year 2000 re-issue series. Sold it after 10 years for $300 more than I paid for it.

Haven't had time to go thru the entire thread but I didn't see Hamer on the list (technically they're dead and gone) I'd put my 2012 Custom Order Californian (or any of the 5 other Cali's I have) up against most any shredder. Seymour Duncan Custom in the bridge and a '59 in the neck, BTW.

My favorite is a Campanale Custom in lime green metal flake with a SH59 in the bridge and a cool rails in the neck

DROOL!!!!!! Love those Hamer "metal" looking axes and yours is stunning! Have ALWAYs wanted a Standard and always lusted for those Chapparels and Californians and stuff back in the day.

My BC Rich Gunslingers could tear it up if I had the chops too. And my 87 Kramer Pacer. Lots of shred tastic axes. But I will still say the Washburn WM526 cuz it was purposely designed for the genre. A buddy of mine has a coupla Rands too. Those are killer

Love those old Kramers and the old ads. I had a box full of 1980s Circus and Faces mags that had all those cool add in them, but mom tossed em (along with some of my fav mens entertainment over the years) when she moved. I see all these mag ads for sale on ebay now..

^ I like that Hamer, too. 10,000 bacon points.

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

They may not be pointy, but Suhr guitars are the best feeling and looking guitars I've ever played, extremely playable necks. Even though it might not be on the poll, or widely considered a 'shred' guitar, I have to give it to PRS, whenever I play one I feel like I can play so much faster, their necks are just perfect for my hands, and I find the string spacing to be optimal for my pick attack.

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

Jackson is the Alpha Male of the shred wolfpack! Charvel (some of which are basically the same as Jackson models) and ESP are very close and Ibanez has the playability but doesn't seem to have the same level of mojo as often. I think a lot more people would love the high end BCs (the best are definitely #1 level) if they weren't so damned rare and expensive. It's a shame they can't bring themselves to sell in the top line models closer to the $2000 range....
