Favorite Vintage Amp

Re: Favorite Vintage Amp

I dont get it? Whats the purpose of the question to ask whats your favorite vintage amp then to exclude some of the most popular brands?

Early 70s Traynor YRM-1 with oversized 2x12. Speakers aren't vintage, though (Emi Wizard and Governor).

Re: Favorite Vintage Amp

Hard to choose between my two favorites: Gibson GA-8 Discoverer or Traynor YBA-1. If push came to shove...uh...hm...I think the Traynor would win. But the Gibson is hard to beat for such a small amp.

If I can't pick Fender, Marshall, Mesa, or Vox, I'll take an Orange Overdrive.

Re: Favorite Vintage Amp

I still have my c. 1972 SUNN Solos II 212 combo, one of the best SS amps ever. The Beta Lead is another terrific amp. But Kustom and Acoustic Control did some great amps too. I had an Acoustic 156 rig and it rocked.

SUNN tube amps have always been favorites. I like the Solarus, the 1200S, the 190; and it would be hard to keep the Model T out of a list of "World Greatest Amps".

And if you like clean power, Hi-Watt. A 100-watt HW stack is almost a religious experience.

And the one company that you probably should have had on your "no" list is Peavey. Among their vintage amps, the Mace is legendary. The all-tube Road Master was it's successor. Peavey made some great hybrid amps too, and one of my fave 212 combos was the Heritage. And then there is the Bandit, probably one of the most popular amps of all time. Hard to beat.

My Carvin '86 XV-212. Next would be my friend's 80's Randall RD-100 ES.
